How about scrapping the qualifying system and just have someone knowledgeable pick the team? Be sure and include some longstanding good players with some intestinal fortitude and some road - hustler style - players. They are still around, believe it or not, and they have what it takes to win. Our current players do not.

I COMPLETELY agree with Jonbouy.

The US need a team of players that have Experience , Knowledge , Ability and are not afraid of Big time pressure. I've always felt that they need to assemble a mix of any of these players to be competitive.....before it's too late

Shane Van Boening
Johnny Archer
Dennis Hatch
Rodney Morris
Jeremy Jones
Shannon Daulton

Yes....I know some of these guys don't really play all that much anymore, and would have to practice quite a bit to get back in shape. But I would put their experience way over the new school.
Don't get me wrong, the "New school" players are very good (Dominguez , Woodward, Thorpe , Dechaine , Bergman) . IMO , They're just not there yet . Let'em win a few U.S Opens and/or World Titles....THEN IT WILL BE ON

Two Options

It seems we have two options:

1) Either there is something wrong with the way we pick Mosconi team members, or
2) European pool players are just better than Americans

I opt for 1). Maybe we should just let the coach pick all five members and forget all about the convoluted qualifying process.

PS: I think the current qualifying process is designed more as a marketing tool for the Mosconi Cup corporate owners than as a genuine test of playing skills.

Common “if x had been there”... really that’s what you take away from this disaster?

recognizing that our best wasn't there and taking immediate corrective is a SMALL step in the right direction...that's my takeaway and we'd still be underdogs if we did select the best of our continent to represent us, so, becoming competitive won't happen overnight, it will take time to establish a culture of winning which will beget winning

No.

It's option 2.

Sorry.
