What is it gonna be?
We have seen some pretty serious changes to equipment over last years...radial laminated shafts.. jump and break cues and the tips to go along with them..and various other knick knacks i.e gloves.. bridge aides.. Earl's elbow pads :p

Is there anything out there on the horizon that might change the basic way people play the game.. well not the basic way but is there anything coming up that will be a must have to compete ala the jump cue, and conversely what are the "trends" that are dying out?
 
To tell you the truth, with all the innovation going on I don't see players doing anything more impressive on the tables then they did in say the 50's. Equipment IS more consistent, but not really anything "new" IMO from back in the day.

Compared to golf and the average player hitting the ball straighter and farther BECAUSE of the clubs, pool is basically the same as it has been since we retired the Mace.


Not to hijack, but on subject, I decided to retire my jump cue. I was out playing 14.1 a few weeks ago watching a beautiful run by a great player, and a few tables down a novice player was banging jump shots after he watched us play a while. I know the guy so after my match I asked him what the heck he was doing with the jump shots? He said he had to learn to jump better to play better 9ball. I started to say something, but remembered the learning process we all have to go through.

That kid had the chance to watch great 14.1 and learn a lot, but wanted to jump balls instead? at that moment, I said my jump cue is now retired! I have been thinking about doing this for years, but it's time. I'm not slamming anyone for using one, and I know companies make good money selling them, but I'm going to start my own mini one guy revolution and hang up the jumper to get back to the roots of the game.

I will still jump balls with a full cue which I think is a sweet shot, just not with a shorty cue.

I've got a few ideas... But for the time being, I am holding on to them. I may need them at
some point. I think there are at least a few things that could be manufactured to drastically
improve one's ability to learn and play the game. I suppose that they would have to amend
the rule book a little to include (exclude from use) these devices. But some of them could
be used just for practice, and one of them could be designed such that no one was aware it
was being used (or existed at all).
 
True, I dont think that the pros are doing anything greatly different from the 50's. but the average joe has more advantages today than before... not that I am saying the game has been "changed" drastically in the last half century but there are different forms of equipment out there that can and does affect the way one plays the game...

BTW..I dont own a jump cue.. yet .. I have my first one being shipped right now (BTW twilight.. check your paypal ! ) I personally dont really care for them but it was a good deal on j/b.. and I dont mind the "b" part of that equipment so much... guess it is better than useung a house cue or another beater cue of mine for a breaker.
 
4th compliment today on that ..... she might be a keeper

makes me laugh when I look at .... cause alls my minds eye cab see is that thing just flopping out there on the follow thru.... I am almost convinced that this picture was snapped the split second before she pulled a "Janet"

Plain Jane wood to wood jointed sneakies and a return to stock shafts on cues as the "latest greatest things in shaft technology fall out of favor as folks learn it is the player, not the stick that really counts."

I might just do that!:).....but it's an Earl Strickland J/B and will be worth millions in a few years! Actually during a 14.1 gambling match I popped my tip off my Schon and finished a 106 with that cue (my first ever 100), so I think for sentimental reasons it will become a wall hanger. I think I will make my Sherbine sneaky my new breaker.

Yeah, and once the golf pro's realize this surely they will all return to the persimmon drivers....lol
 
Shoes. A shoe that will help put more power into your break. The shoe will also help you make the ball jump better. They will also have a signal in them warning you that you are not properly balanced or aligned.

Glasses. Glasses that will help you visualize a ghost ball. They will also show the exact center of the CB.

Hats. There will be a built in computer , a camera and a drop down screen from the visor. The camera will feed info to the computer that will then project the runout to the screen showing every shot, speed and position.

A cue stick that will run tables by itself. I think there are already some of these if you read the hype or description by some of the EBay sellers.

A cue stick with a built in meter that will show how hard you hit the ball and how much spin you put on the ball.

A perfect rack, break cue and analyzer. After breaking on any table 3 times you will know the perfect spot, speed an cb hit to break any rack and make the money ball. If the money ball is not a win on the break then you will be able to make all the balls except for it thus leaving only the money ball in perfect position for you next shot.

Don't steal any of these ideas as I have a patten on all of them:D
 
I was going to say something like a "helmet cam", but The Book beat me to it, and with a better idea. ;)
