Terrific Shaft
I've been playing with an OB-1 for almost two years now and I absolutely love it. I use a Moori quick on one shaft and a Kamui hard on the other and neither shaft has never failed to perform. I hit a few shots and made whitey do some incredible things that I used to think was impossible. I wouldn't even try these shots with either a regular shaft or a Predator.
I've been at this game for almost 40 years , off and on, and my skill level isn't too shabby. I finished 23rd in the US Amateur Championships in Laurel Md. in 2000 and was part of a five man team that finished in 5th place in Vegas at the BCA Nationals in 2005 out of over 600 teams.

I just recently switched to an OB-1 shaft after playing with a Predator shaft my whole life, and I absolutely love the way it plays. It sort of plays like a Predator, but feels so much more solid to me. I would really recommend trying one out if you like the way laminated shafts play.
I bought an ob-1 shaft about a year ago, played with it for 3 or 4 days, and decided it wasnt for me, it seemed dead, no noise that i was used to when you really stroke a ball, and I was used to throwing cut shots with a little of outside, and suddenly I was missing all of these shots with this ob-1. Prior to that, I have played with a predator shaft, both the original 314, and the newer 314-2, for the past 5 or 6 years. When I got my latest cue it came with a matched 314-2, which was nice and hit well. About two weeks after getting the cue, and playing with it, the ferrule had what appeared to be a couple of scratches, which after cleaning, turned out to be cracks. The shaft still played well, but I was afraid to really stroke a ball with these cracks in the ferrule. So after playing with the above mentioned ob-1 for 3 or 4 days, I decided to trade the shaft for a Tiger-X, which I never used, and ended up selling. After my problem with the newest 314-2, I found a really great deal on a new ob-1 from KOINKID aka Troy, so I decided to buy it to use while I sent my 314-2 to have the ferrule replaced. When I first got it, I had the tip changed to a Sniper, and havent put it down since. I havent sent my 314-2 in for repair yet, as I have been loving the ob-1 with the Sniper on it. I have also adjusted to it, mostly due to loosening up, hitting the ball a little softer, and not thinking about the difference. As with the predator and ob-1, the better stroke you have, the better the shaft will feel to you, and the better action you will get on the ball. Not trying to offend anyone with that statement, but as my game has gotten better over the years, I can remember playing with my first predator and thinking the shaft was dead feeling at times, and other times would get good action, the reason was I was tightening up when I was stroking through the ball. So to sum up, I love the ob-1, but I had to get used to it, and I even gave up on it in the beginning.

I think they use a whippy taper to get the low deflection in place of predator lower mass in the front to get the low deflection.
If they come up with a stiffer taper then i think it is not going to be able to be a low deflection shaft. Just a normal shaft with a funky ferrule!

My only complaint so far is my shaft warped ever so slightly. Not enough to notice when playing but when you roll the cue you can see it wobble just a little. This is the 2nd one I had. The first had like a nick in it that would catch my glove when I was stroking. They replaced it no questions asked.
I think these two impressions are related. I don't believe you can get more spin more easily with any cue; I believe that's just "new cue syndrome" making you pay closer attention to where you hit the cue ball. That means that as the newness wears off (and your attention begins to waver as before) the OB-1 will perform less and less "magically". Unless you learn the lesson and change the way you play.
