The only book on pool you need $15.00 Shipped.
Byrne’s Standard Book of Pool and Billiards, published in 1978 and expanded in 1998, has sold over 500,000 copies.
In the world of cue sticks and side pockets, this is the gospel, the 1998 revised, standard version of the 1978 bible. Byrne racks his book into two halves, the first a primer on pool, the second on three-cushion billiards. Beginning with the fundamentals, he goes on to run the table with lots of readable advice and detailed diagrams for how to play individual shots, including trick shots, strategies for eight- and nine-ball, and rules for the major pool games. Then it's on to billiards, where he banks from the fundamentals to the art of shot making and tactics for play at every level, touching on every conceivable cushion along the way. --Jeff Silverman
If you are starting out in pool or billiards, this is probably the best instructional book for beginners out there. Byrnes' clarity in this area is unparalleled. Terrific book for the player who knows how to shoot, but has not yet mastered the small details of the game.

I have read just about every book on this subject, and there is no better book than this one!
Robert Byrne is the very best at describing how the differing aspects of pool and billiards is supposed to be played. I would definitely suggest that you buy this book. I have bought this book for at least five of my friends and continually refer back to it myself. You won't be sorry you bought it.
I have played semi-pro pool for about 10 years. I give lessons on a weekly basis, and always recommend this book to my students.
This is a book I come back to time and time again. As someone who plays off and on, I often refer to the book when pool is 'back' in my life. This is a keeper!
The diagrams, the history, why shots do what they do, how to play the angles, you can't beat it. Its both informative and entertaining.
Good book to learn for amateurs like me. My playing skills as improved and know the rules of the game. This is the only book I bought and after this one, I did not think I need any other book to learn more, unless you wanted go advanced. Good book, I recommended it!
After reading this book it improved my one pocket game by about 20 percent. Lots of interesting tips and facts.
this book really is a must have for any serious pool player, i have been playing for twenty plus years and lost this book a while ago and needed to replace it.great for beginners or brushing up your game.
Great Learning tool for pool, My game has already improved after only reading a few chapters. I love the history of billiards in this book. There are added sections from the previous editions that showcase Eight ball and nine ball.
Robert Byrne has set the standard. As a state ranked player I decided to read this book. My game went to the next level. His checklist for running a table, his description of different types of "throw" shots and his simplifying the stroke all were instrumental. In pool, unlike other sports, there are few real teachers, Robert Byrne is a great teacher for the beginner to the very advanced player. It's the least expensive pool lesson you'll ever get.
I have only been playing for about six months, so I am not too good. If you are like me, and you want to improve your game, buy this book. It is fun to read and extremely helpful. I probably won't be able to master every technique in the book in ten years, but the two or three things I have learned have taken my game to a whole new level. I love it. It is all I need.
Even though I'm not much more than a beginner at pool, I find this book fascinating. He covers each concept with lots of detail yet can still be understood
Covers every facet of pool yet is easy to read and understand. In just my first day of reading it, my play improved tremendously. A perfect book for beginners and more advanced players.
I can recall few products that I have bought over the years that more than lived up to its hype, promises, and my expectations. If there is a better book out there on pool and billiards, I am not aware of it. Clarity of writing and exquisitely simple and concise diagrams contribute to a superb resource.
