The only thing wrong with "Pool," is it needs watching.

I wasn't the first to say they didn't favor the 2 races to 4 and shootout format, but the shorter races does make suspense especially when
two good players like these are doing the battle.

It highlights the importance of each shot in Pool. Safeties are important and getting out when you're in control is important.

Shorter matches are needed so that people will have time to watch complete matches. I watch a few racks at a time and I'm
enjoying the back and forth between these two players. Instead of this match being at 38k views it should be 138k views.
Pool has the people, sponsorship needs their viewership. It's a "zero" investment for pool fans and is the cheapest way to
promote the professional sport.

What would happen if pool fans started sharing these matches on social media? Would it be possible to bring the millions of other fans
of the game into the viewership fold? Many pool leaguers couldn't name a single professional player. Shouldn't we share?

Do we have the power from the platform of Social Media to increase the viewership of Pool?

Share this and let's see! I just shared to Facebook. I'm over one thousand friends mostly pool people.

If my 1000 friends were to share how many people turn into viewers?

I've wrote this several times with very little support: Pool needs an ACTIVE audience such as the Mosconi Cup. Crowd participation activates the audience and motivates the players.
Pool is boreing to watch on TV to the casual fan. Video coverage has no creative properties.

Someone posted a bowling match on here a while back. The crowd was into it and it was exciting to watch, and I don't care about bowling. I guess part of the excitement is that there is a payoff on every shot, with pool, the typical shot is interesting because it's part of the whole rack. Still, the crowd energy is important.

The crowd energy is super important and was clear this years Mcup. And the majority of ppl there understand pool. So it worked great. Right product for the right audience always works.

Problem is the audience, finding or cultivating them is where the rubber meets the road.

Car racing just popped into my mind, funny how that works. Nascar sells because watching cars go in circles real fast is simple and fun.

The announcers seldom if ever discuss the intricacies of players style. They never work with the cameraman ahead of time and during the match to show interesting techniques as done in golf. On and on and on....

I think the people suggesting a condensed replay have a good point. I love pool and I'll fast forward guys contemplating a shot. A pool match isn't significant enough to the broader culture to need to see it live or in real time. I have to watch the Super Bowl live because I will hear who won so I need to experience that at the same time. There's no risk of spoilers with pool. With the condensed replay the announcers and editors could place more emphasis on the key shots.

Wanting to watch pool happens after someone is exposed to pool.

Most non pool players will have misconceptions about a pool room, pool characters or pool pros.

The current media exposing people to pool is confusing and does not conform to how other sports are introduced to people. Youth sport leagues start as early as 5. That includes ballet dancing to football to soccer to cricket and a lot in between.

The reason sports start early is because its easier to keep kids addicted. As opposed to convert a teenager or adult to let pool compete with their other interests.

Dan Harriman is writing children's books, if you support his efforts he might expand into short cartoons.

It has always been pretty straightforward to me.
For cuesports, compare how these two present themselves, which one is more professional.
Same table, balls, ruleset.... stability.

Snooker
Vs
Pool

Why do you think Snooker has more coverage... take all the time you need.

yes, but add another two colored balls in snooker and it gets complicated. simplicity is key, as sjm states.

i've had an idea for years, to replace the ball graphics in 9-ball on the bottom of the screen. nobody looks at it anyway. instead they should have a graphic/technology that highlights the next ball ON THE TABLE. three-ball flashes red for a second or so. just a slow blink, once. of course only the tv audience will see it, the players won't. what do you think?

Agreed. Matchroom makes the MC available for the 0.1% of the population who are already fans of the sport, the cup, and paying extra for a spotty stream.
I am of the opinion that if the MC aired on regular cable TV one time, it would be introduced to people outside of that 0.1% of America.
This could possibly lead to new fans, players, and consumers.
I understand it is a pipe dream.

Carry on.

It's a pipe dream worth dreaming if dreams turn into realities of millions of people loving professional pool.

Many of us, self-included would like to find the way.
At the end of that path would be the golden goose for Pool.

That's a great idea. I will have to remember that one.
Do you have any idea how to make something like that work?

You're right but every match can't be the Mosconi Cup. It's a great thought.

sure, it's easy enough to learn a program the order of the balls, their colors and which ones are left at any point. since they are perfect spheres from any camera angle it should also be easy enough for the graphic program to trace the circle live and add a tinted "inner glow" or a similar effect.

Look at how bad espn camera men were. Shows what they know about pool.

Accustats is another story as is matchroom they understand pool.

But the untrained camera man reinforces my point. Most people don’t know what they are watching.

They can't even figure out what is important to show in a baseball game. It's like trying to watch a game while looking through a straw. They always want to show closeups of some player spitting, blowing snot, or scratching his balls. The actual game, and what the other players on the field are doing, seems to be secondary.

I think the chance of finding a TV director who knows what to look for in a pool match, is pretty slim.

Exactly right!!!

I watch an unhealthy amount of pool. Prolly more than most. I’d like to see all of the streaming format s offer a chat room so fans can interact with each other. I think it makes for a better overall experience. Just my $0.02

If you don’t know how to play pool-watching it sucks.

Watch pool sometime and pretend you don’t know how to draw or follow your CB. Though that lense it’s a horrible thing to watch.

Pool players see a different thing than non players see. We as players can appreciate the difficulty of a shot. Where the untrained eye just sees a ball pocketed.

Assume 99.5% of people know zero about pool. My proof: give BiH to 99.5% of people and they set up a straight in shot with no idea which direction the cb should be going. How can they appreciate watching shape for the next shot WHEN THEY DONT KNOW WTF IT IS?? They can’t.

Nobody who plays plays pool remembers 99.5% of the potential audience knows ZERO.

If they knew how to play pool , there would be an audience.

Go watch grand master chess players for a hour and get back to me-unless you play high level chess. Idk wtf I’m watching when they play. Chess players see things I as an uneducated chess player can’t see. I suck at chess I’m in that 99.5% thing.

Backgammon is another example. Go watch backgammon and see how interesting that is. Same idea.

Stupid simple retard shit that is understandable sells. Cornhole, darts, soccer, golf. And good for them. I like stupid shit, I’m a retard and not PC today-just being honest. Brain dead stuff sells the best.

Bring an expert to enjoy something is a big ask for a wide market. I chose to become an expert at pool, and I can watch a 3 hour rack of 1P because I know what I’m watching. A league player can’t-in most cases. I couldn’t stand 1P for the first year or 2 I was learning about pool. That’s cool you grow into it.

Boxing is great, I know loads about it. But it’s watchable at a primal level because it’s just a fight. It’s also very technical like pool should you learn about it. Pool isn’t primal, it’s cerebral and requires knowledge to appreciate

It’s not changing

Bonus Ball was the plan to fix/save pool, Christ it was so complicated. Sure. Lol
I think more people understand the rules and strategy of pool now because so many kids and teenagers play pool on their phones now.

They may not play much in real life, but they understand some of the basics from video game pool
