The Filipino's against the World...(must read)

why even put this event on? are the Pinoy's that damn cocky? or is it because they have enough pride and are they just that damn good? IMO, Filipino's are a dominate force to be reconned with in the sport, ie bustamante and alcano to name two of a hundred. Alcano is currently leading this event with major victories and is the top seed, what do you guys think about this?

Meh.... The Taiwanese ran the event 'Taiwan vs the World' a couple of times a few years ago... :p

I think its to draw the crowds, the Taiwanese and Filipinos want to watch their native players, a combination of national sport and patriotism :)

yeah, and i think there have been several US vs the world tournaments, not only in pool but in other sports as well....it's all about marketing. would you watch a tournament between the US all-stars and your local high school basketball team? on second thought, i think i'd watch that!!

You got me with that "must read" heading.

We have a sponsor. We create an event. The event will first have to please the sponsor, then everybody else. That's probably there is to it. Fortunately, there have been dominantly good signals that the event will be embraced.

It is a humble offering to international pool.

By the way, it's "Quezon City vs. The Rest of the World".
