In the World Open, so far, every player that has won the first frame has won the match (best of five).

So a one frame shootout format would seem to be a satisfactory substitute for short matches.:D

Bring back Pot Black for a TV snooker series.

And to comply with the time constraints of TV, borrow from the 9-ball Border Battle - time limit for the match and shot clock. This would get players managing the clock just like quarterbacks.:D

Shot clock would be a great idea at any time for snooker players. I remember being at tournaments well into the early hours of the morning when players like Terry Griffiths, Cliff Thorburn and Perry Mans were playing. Sometimes it would seem they even took forever even to get out of their chair when it's their shot:(

what do you think about "power ball snooker" and the "world 6 red rule changes? I don't mind the 6 red format, but "ball in hand"? Ruining the great game.

On a side note, the match between Ebdon and the young Chinese fellow (Liu) was painful to watch.

A lot less painful as best of 5 than best of 9.:D:D:D
Liu was only in the tournament because Higgins was suspended.

All tournaments have clunkers.

I have enjoyed watching the World Open. Some players you would not normallly see. Single table so you watch all matches. Short matches put pressure on the players. No great delay between matches. Good video feed, usually found a BBC source instead of EuroSport.

Mark Williams won from behind, beating Ding today.
