This is Will Prouts latest Quiverz addtion to his case collection. A tribute to Sitting Bull, the great Lakota Sioux Chief. As with all Quiverz cases, Phil Eastwood has designed and crafted everything including the artwork, the tooling, lacing the beads, etc. all done solely by his hand. A testament to Phil's genius and not just a branded composite. Enjoy!

Another great case. Two questions, what is the significance of the Made American inscription and two what is a branded composite?

Another outstanding Phil Eastwood

Hi Will,
Congratulations on another outstanding Phil Eastwood case! His workmanship and creativity puts his work in a class of it's own!
Best regards,
Phil

Another great case. Two questions, what is the significance of the Made American inscription and two what is a branded composite?

The Made American has a few meanings, one most definately subliminal, but Phil intentionally worded it that way to fuel the imagination of the viewer. Branded Composite only really implies that no other hand has touched this piece during fabrication, ie: tooling by one, assembled by another, sold under a brand name, etc..feeble attempt at bumping the product, probably better left unsaid. I usually stay away from making such comparisons, because I think most folks see Phils designs for their uniqueness. We discussed this last night, its kinda like comparing 'Apples and Oranges'. Frankly we feel the same way about the poll-there really is no reward involved and to the latter, if it were up to us we wouldnt participate. We'd rather have cash.

I just finished a book about Custer and Crazy Horse so I kind of feel like I know what Phil meant by using the Made American phrase.

Regarding the poll you have to understand that these types of votes are not juried art shows. They are simply people's choice contests with many factors weighing into the votes people cast. I would have liked to have had more of our cases included but my customers didn't decide to nominate them, cest' le vie. Also because you were nominated with five cases your votes will certainly be spread out among them.

I do want to say this about your cases, your pictures don't do them any favors in my opinion. The cases are incredibly busy with a ton of detail work. In my opinion the way you do your photos is kind of disconcerting so that it's hard to take the case in and appreciate the entire piece. I don't know if this is making sense but to me it's very hard to follow your theme with the jarring effect of the angles and poses you shoot in.

Lastly, in our pool world we value collaborative efforts as well as single-creator efforts. This is an ongoing debate though in cues, especially when it comes to scrimshaw. I don't know what the answer is and whether more value should be placed on the single creator's works or not. I certainly fall on the side of allowing the work to stand on it's own regardless of how many hands and heads worked on it. I certainly will never feel as much pride in our creations as I am sure Phil does in his simply because I know that without a solid team there would be no JB Cases. In our cases there is a ton of innovation in construction and I feel a lot of pride when I invent a new way to do something. But the total case is a team effort with us and always will be.

So I fully understand that it can be frustrating when you put out so very much effort on an individual level and yet your work is overshadowed by collaborations. But honestly I wouldn't take the poll too seriously. Phil's work is in a class of it's own and is quite imaginative.

I can tell you from experience that most people don't fully appreciate what goes into cue cases anyway. The past five years have seen a literal explosion of the "art" cue case. What Phil does with the metal rings Jiasen in China does with lacing to create brilliant shapes. Armor/RedSheep does some amazing cases in unusual shapes. All of you are pushing the boundaries of what a cue case is well beyond the function. Revel in that and don't sweat the popularity contests. In time people in the billiard world will come to understand leather crafting and all that goes into it with experienced and knowledgeable eyes.

Thank you for pushing the craft forward.

I hope that by the time a case reaches our eyes you already have the cash :-)

This statement says it all. You can have your customers agree not to participate.

Not really, this poll is more about the customer, I guess I should say that we are indifferent to the poll for the reasons I stated. I will obstain from any further comments on this string, as this post was for The Sitting Bull case for Will-and I should have left the poll out of it. THX C

Case

That is one fantastic case, I absolutely love it. Phil is a truly talented individual.

The Sitting Bull case is absolutely magnificent, and is doubly so in person with close inspection. The quality of the detailed tooling is just amazing. Breathtaking, and I don't say that very often.

The interior offers great protection, and the coloring, lacing, beadwork, pivoting case lid, strap and metalwork all contribute to another treasured heirloom for the Prout family.

Needless to say, the Tonkin Night Spirit box cue looks pretty special teamed with Sitting Bull.

Let me offer my highest recommendation to Phil Eastwood and Quiverz Sport Cases. If you are considering a specialty case, you should give Phil a call.

Great case Will and Phil. Love the theme, and there is no need to explain Made American, its self explanatory.

magnificent case!

Will loaned me this case for a brief while, just to show my wife basically. Within 2 minutes of walking around Shooters with it, people started following me around like I was a celebrity or something!! Within 5 minutes of holding it, there was a crowd of about 20 people around me. One guy that saw it was in such utter amazement that I'd swear he left a puddle under his feet!
To say that the case has an artistic presence that is unrivaled, flat out jaw dropping, and unbelievably incredible detail, may be an understatement. You simply cannot appreciate the fine tooling just by looking at the pictures. YOU SIMPLY HAVE TO SEE THIS CASE! It is truely awesome. Thanks Will.
