BEEN THERE, DONE THAT!

As some of you may be aware, this is a very important event for the future of pool in the U.S. Greg Sullivan has plans of building a real pro tour here in the U.S. This will involve several big events like, and including, the Derby City Classic, The Southern Classic in Tunica and if all goes well more venues to come. The big wheels who control the venues in New Albany and Tunica and about 150 other properties are there evaluating how the event goes and how the pool players and the casino blend together. I hope everyone is on their best behaviors and do their best to show the good side of pool action. It could make a great deal of difference in the future of our sport!

I couldn't agree more, and I'm not being negative, but from the entry numbers I have seen it is less than half of the DCC. Hopefully that is due to the amateur events. No stream so far is disappointing as well.

Inaugural events like these always seem to start off slow... I really hope this turns out to be a very successful 9 days. Wish I could be there...

Great post couldn't agree more!

i am headed down there in a lil while. i live about an hour away.one thing i noticed is a lack of local advertisement.

i doubt very much if any of the locals outside of the pool scene are aware of this event. all the casinos advertise upcoming attractions on billboards all around memphis yet i have seen nothing about this event. maybe there are some on the signs on the way to tunica , but only the people already headed there will see them. the 2 main roads headed out of memphis have about 50 billboards advertising what is going on down there but like i said the only people seeing them are people headed there anyway.

i believe if it was advertised in the memphis area more than the few napa posters i have seen displayed i am sure it would help people know more about it.

i saw nothing in the media about stevie moore and brandon shuff helping raise money for the saint jude childrens hospital which is based here in memphis. that would have helped letting people know we have the largest pool event ever held here happening over the next week.

So why doesn't someone put in a call to the local TV stations and newspapers and let them know what's going on?

Greg is trying to get the semblence of a tour going and Harrah's has their eyes and ears open. If the DDC and the SBC come off, there is the possibility of a third event (maybe Atlantic City) and something that actually looks like a tour with *big time* sponsorship.

The Harrah's people are checking it out.

So here's my one-time commercial: if you can, support the event. Go down and play, or hang for a couple of days. I know the PPV is having some issues, but if you can, if and when it comes up -- support it. And for goodness gracious sakes: if you go and can, ditch the T-shirts and baseball caps and throw a clean pair of jeans and an ironed polo shirt in your luggage and try and dress it up. Important people are watching. This could be a turning point.

I'm here and havin' a helluva time.

If you're not here.....ask yourself ".....why?".

This event is what we've all been waiting on, folks. Let's take advantage of the opportunity.

There were still 154 players at least in the banks. Seeing a lot people showing up throughout the day that didn't get in the banks tourney. The open tourneys are at the casino and the amateur events are across the property in the convention center.
