Does anyone own, or have tried, or knows anything about the "Universal SmartShaft"?

What I think is interesting is it claims to be able to fit any cue. Here's an excerpt:

I've tried one. I ordered the "low whip" shaft and, although I like it, found it a little to stiff for me. My husband then tried it and he loves it. Just finished 2nd to James Walden in a tournament after using it for about 2 weeks....

I have just ordered the "regular whip" version for myself. Hopefully it will fit my stroke better. I really like the interchangable adapters and was very impressed with the low vibration.....

I know a fellow who likes it the best of all the shafts he has owned/used, and it's the shaft on his cue now. However, he told me he has broken six of them so far. The problem area according to him is in the joint.
 
I have one and liked it at first but have since gone back to my maple shafts.
It's all personal preference but I just prefer to feel the impact of the shot and the Smart Shaft really dampens the hit.

However, I really wish I could get used to the feel because this thing is DEADLY accurate.

I'm up in the air about selling mine....

Koop may be up in the air, but mine is for sale; with a 5/16-14 insert. It's been used for maybe 4 hours and is in perfect shape. For the reasons mentioned by Tammy and Koop above, I can't get used to it. I know this is supposed to be in the for sale section, but contact me for a great price.

I'm on my 4th one now. But they do replace them without any hassle, and they do claim to have most of the kinks worked out now (my current one is about 4 months old with no problems so far). As for the hit, I really like it. But it is very stiff.

They did have a problem with the inserts and it has been fixed, you shouldn't have any more problems.
 
Extensive discussion in rec.sport.billiard back in Feb. 2005, with USS inventor Bill Hightower.

Vibration damping for cues is its gimmick. I don't own a shaft that quivers obnoxiously, so I wouldn't bother.

A cheaper ($20-$30) option is the X-1 Limbsaver vibration-damping butt bumper replacement. Reports of its benefits are inconclusive.

You mean Stroud? I know it was Bill Stroud who invented and patented this particular shaft.

i got a chance to try a uss a couple days ago. a guy i shoot with once in awhile just got one that day and really liked it. his cue is a schon and he also has one of those svl things on it. he insisted i hit a few balls with it so i did, it was very stiff and had very little flex though i didn't hit any hard draw shots with it.

my personal view on "performance" shafts is completely based on players preference. if anybody mass produced a shaft that was truly better than the rest, and sold it for $400 or even more, every good player would have one.
