Here I sit on this plateau for the last few months. How long does the typical playing plateau last and does anyone have any "secrets" for helping it along. I seem to have gotten stuck about a month after my last instruction session.

Good question.

One way is to put a little more new, reliable information into your game. Will peak your interest again.

Jodacus...What kind of instruction have you had (group or private)? Was your teacher a professional instructor, or just a good player? Did he/she leave you with any way to review what you learned in the lesson? All of these things are important variables to know, in order for us to helpfully answer your question.

Private lessons by a BCA professional instructor. His instruction was good, but it was the kind without end, like "practice being on the correct side of the ob". That is good advice, I don't have a any problem with that and I don't think that my plateau is necessarily linked to his advice. I spent a whole day with him, and he helped a lot. The only reason I mention the instruction in the original post was because of the coincidental timing.

Try a marathon session ---- at least 6 hours of continuous play. You may find some interesting things start to happen with your game.

Take an honest look at your game or have someone else take a look at it and make some assessments.... Pick 2 things that are your weakest areas and work on them heavily for a month...

Sometimes a plateau really is just us bumping up against a concrete boundary not realizing it for what it is.....

I spent years focusing on pure offense thinking if I could just make all the shots I would break thru to a new level.... What finally broke me thru was taking a month and just rolling the ball...

I had played for years but I always used power and spin to control the cueball.. When I started rolling it and learning to play position just with natural roll I suddenly had a huge jump in position play and an even bigger jump in playing safeties... Sticking whitey to the back of the ball is way easier coming in with a flat cueball than spinning in behind it..... Who knew?????
