The World Snooker Professional Championship 2011

I'm up at 5am tomorrow for more action, tired as hell....

the thing is any fan of cue sports should try and watch this stuff, I'm a pool guy first and always but this is the ultimate cue sports tourney bar none

Yeah me too. This is shaping into a very intriguing match as well. Judd seems to have it in control at the moment but Higgins is so good that you feel he could dominate at any moment. Can't wait until tomorrow.

I'd say it's 65-35 for Higgins now. I haven't seen him miss so many easy pots in a long time. This is weird since he looks to have created pressure on himself rather than on his opponent. But if he recovers, there's no question as to whose break-building abilities are superior. On average he needs one less visit by the table than Trump to build a winning break. If Trump can maintain his fantastic statistic on long pots, the chances are even, but I doubt whether anyone in the world can pot long balls with this accuracy for more than a session...
I don't want to detract from Trump, he's got my respect already for having stayed on top in the psychological warfare with Higgins so far. I'd just still be surprised if he won.

As to luck (I'm not commenting here on the last session where Higgins got some luck too) - did you guys actually see any of the previous ones with Trump or you're just saying? :)

my assessment exactly, Trump is not clearing on first time visits

Higgins played his C game which he means he plays better tomorow, Trump has to maintain his A game and maybe turn that into an A+ with some better position play, safeties, and most importantly, big clearances

with John 3 frames down I say Trump has the smallest edge, not a the full 3 frames the score would suggest

Selby pushed Higgins a few years back after starting horribly, different style though

From what I've seen so far Higgins has gotten better rolls, he's lucky he's only down 10-7. From this point on he has to win by at least 11 frames to 7 to win the title....unless he brings his best game tomorrow I don't see it happening. Trump is playing with surprising confidence for a 21 year old in his first crucible final.

My Views on the Final:

Youth v Experience !

First Session:
Judd Trump 4 v 4 John Higgins.

I thought this was a fair scoreline and for Judds first apperance in the final he handled it really well.John played well enough to merit a 4v4 scoreline.

Pot Pourri !

Second Session:
Judd Trump 10 v 7 John Higgins.

In this session I expected John Higgins to use his experience and stamp his authority into the match and play more snookers and safety tactics but I think he fell into the trap door and tried to out pot Judd ! Wrong tactics John and you have two sessions left to turn this around ! How good was that black into the top right for the century break from Judd? Pot Pourri !

my prediction
When they announce the winner..
...it's gonna sound like they dropped the silverware

Gulp....:o....well..not the first time I've been wrong.

Now it's 13-12 for John Higgins...think the wheels fell off for Judd when he
went for a tough blue down the rail.

Is it a Trump thing?
Judd's got hair issues..just like the Donald...:shocked2:

Even though Higgins won, I was more impressed with Trump..I can't believe some of the shots he made under the pressure he must've been under. Also, Higgins definitely got much better rolls. I have no doubt this kid will win more than a couple of Championships in his career.

gotta say I was more impressed with Higgins, what a tactician, the strategy when down 2 snookers on the last frame was insane

Trump's never put away frames when he had the chance and his cue ball was everywhere

John was outgunned but he strategy and tactics were crazy, and I believe he baited Trump on his final break shot, letting him take a long pot knowing he wouldn't put away the frame

Higgins all round game, tenacity and steely resolve are what won the day, felt sorry for Judd, great to watch and a welcome addition to the worlds elite.

My views on the Final:

Will the Wizard From Wishaw Wilt ?

Third Session:
Judd Trump 12 v 13 John Higgins
The luck with the roll of the cue ball was with John Higgins and Judd seemed to lose control of the white but how risky was that blue down the rail? I thought if you make this you deserve to win Judd would have taken a 13-9 lead that was a big moment in the match.John won 5 frames in a row.

Fourth Session:
Judd Trump 15 v 18 John Higgins

Experience v Youth !
Sitting back in front of the TV watching the final few frames being played out and Im thinking there can only be one winner here and its experience.John Higgins sealed the deal and looking back on that risky blue it lost Judd Trumps momentum in the match and maybe cost him the match.

Well done John Higgins!Congratulations and to Judd Trump for the excellent show !

I can really see why everybody loves Judd. He's got a lot farther than I expected, and that's because he may have the one crucial thing many young talents (Ding, Cope) seem to lack - strong psychology.

But equally, as we all know, snooker isn't about potting balls. Snooker is about building breaks. However amazing Trump may be at his long pots, he's not a mature player (and again, it's not that a young player cannot be mature, it's just that Trump doesn't happen to be). There's sooo much more room for improvement - which is scary in a way, because if he can add a few skills without losing his advantages, he may be unstoppable.

But then again, if we compare him to Ronnie for example - I haven't seen Trump performing even close to Ronnie's A level snooker yet. Trump has certainly shown us he's got the psychology for being a champion, and this is tremendously important and not something everybody's got. But he still has a long road to go. To me, there are a copule of better players around, including Higgins of course, but also Selby and Ronnie, possibly Williams, maybe even Murphy and Allen.
