THE SILENCER

a few years ago on the apa, i saw a girl make a shot, that was so horrible it stuck in my head, like the smell of an outhouse in august. she had a straight in 8-ball shot for the win. the 8-ball was 3 inches from the corner pocket. the cue ball was 5 inches from the 8-ball all three the pocket, 8 and cue ball were in a straight line, you, figure helen keller could make this 9 out of 10 times. what followed was so ugly, i shook my head in disbelief, remembering saying to myself, "now, that there shot was the worst shot i ever did see" can you guess what happened? give up? ok, here's what happened--~~~ she addressed the cue ball with follow, she unknowingly cheated the pocket, so the 8-ball hit the point of the pocket, veered out of the way of the pocket, and the cue ball proceeded to go straight forward, for the scratch on the 8-ball and the loss of the game. what a horrible shot to witness, like watching a car crash in slow motion.

Or like someone I witnessed.. Shooting the black did not want to follow in after it,,and they obviously believed smackin the crap out of the ball would stop it dead...but somehow the 8 went in, and the cue ball flew off the table and into the bar.......ugly

i'ves senn horrnle ones...like a few months ago......all this guy had to do was pocket the 8-ball which was mm away from thge pocket asically hanging and this rookie bitach followed through like there was no tomorrow..

After that happened, you should have got in her face and said, "Ahahahah! You are an inexperienced player! You choked under pressure! You pathetic fool! How dare you miss an easy shot! I don't care if you don't grasp the physics of the game! You are a worthless idiot!"

Inexperienced people make me sick. How dare they magically not possess the knowledge of the game that I do. I don't care if it's the first time they have ever picked up a cue. They should automatically know everything about the game. I mean after all, when I picked up a cue for the first time, I ran a 7-pack in 9 ball.

I remember watching a guy in league play shooting an easy eight ball which he rattled, somehow he ended up with another chance this time the eight was hanging in the corner he got down fired the cueball right past the eight in the pocket.

Here is a good APA story. About 7 or 8 years ago, I played one session in the APA. We were in some kind of playoffs to go to Vegas and we were up 2-0. Our next player was up either 1-0 or 2-0 or something like that in the third set. She needed one game and the opponent hadn't even won a game yet. She got straight in on the 8-ball to win her set and the entire match. Both the cue ball and the 8 ball were no more than 1 inch off the bottom rail. Very easy shot. No one could miss it. In fact, she didn't miss it. She also didn't scratch. Just wait...

The 8-ball was straight into the left side corner pocket. She walks over to the right side of the table, where the cue ball is, getting ready to shoot. She marks the right corner pocket!!!. She then proceeds to shoot the 8-ball into the left corner pocket, straight in. As the 8-ball was falling, she noticed that she marked the wrong pocket. I know you get timeouts in the APA, but I think we didn't have any left. Anyway, you can probably guess what happened next. Not only did she lose that game, she lost her set, to make the score 2-1 in our favor, and then our team lost the next two sets, and we got eliminated.

Not funny then. Funny now.

I only played that one session in the APA, but that was not the reason why I left. I left because at that time, I was concentrating on playing professional 9-ball and trying to move up. I wanted to spend as much time as possible doing that as opposed to playing on small tables.

In an APA tournament match for a trip to the finals in Las Vegas, our skill level 2 player had a shot on the eight ball to get us into the finals for the trip. The eight ball was about 18 inches from the corner pocket the cue ball about 12 inches from the eight ball. All were in a straight line. She hit the shot a hundred miles an hour and the 8 ball rattled back and forth and hung there. Her opponent another skill level 2 shot in her final ball and then made the 8 ball for game, set and match and we went home losers. It wasn't long after that when I decided the APA was not for me, because our players all went up skill points and we had to break up the team. Sucks being a seven and seeing teams split up, because a couple players actually improved. Better off sandbagging I am afraid.

Three weeks ago I saw somebody pull off this shot...

The game is 9-ball and the 9 is about 1 diamond away from the corner pocket, the cueball is about 2 feet from the 9-ball. The shot is dead straight. In an attempt to make sure the cueball doesn't follow the 9 the shooter lines up to put some draw on the cue.

Well, he stabs at the ball about 100 times harder than he needs to, no follow through and digs the tip under the cueball which flies straight over the 9-ball and into the corner pocket. Nothing but net.

I would have laughed harder, but he was my partner. :)

This would have to be the funniest shot I ever saw, I was playing a friend Fred who isn't a very good player position wise but can bang in anything he can see. This one night he calls 6 ball in the side gets down and in typical fasion slams the six in the side. Trouble is he jumped off our table landing on the table beside ours and sinking thier six in thier side.

not a 'friend'....ME

just a different variation from the shots here....this happened to me...couldn't do anything but laugh...

in a small tournament...to close the rack I've got 8-ball left on the table..8-ball some 10" away from the pocket...cueball another 10" away from the 8-ball...in 45 degree angle to the pocket....so no corners to avoid, no nothing...just roll the ball in and that's it...no excuses...
I set up for the shot....stroke twice...and whack it way too hard....and way too low......the result....the cueball jumps up....climbs on top of the 8ball....hits it on top.....continues over the 8ball and rolls into the pocket....only to be follow by the 8ball shortly after in the same pocket....

well at least the stroke was straight! :)

Cheers,
Kimmo
