I have had people tell me that they spend $7, $10, $15 whatever to enter the tournament so why should they spend any money at the bar? They somehow think the owner is making money on the entry fee. The really sad part about them is that they are dead serious.
The regular players at the bar also come in on days when there is no tournament and pay table time to practice for the tournament and also have a few beers.
Same reason the bars allow the APA in, it is good for business. They get four teams in with 6 players who sit around drinking beer waiting to play. Usually a lot of these players never come in unless it is league night.
It sure is better than having a bartender sit there all alone all night.
As far as "broke" people coming in just to play in the tournament a couple places here will let them play as long as they don't win. If they do then they are told not to come back. Unless, of course, they spend some of that money in the bar.
