There comes a time

Lewis,

If its any consolation to you, I am on my 4th comeback. I think I have a few years on you, so I hope you aren't giving up too soon.
I found myself playing the best golf and one pocket I ever played, from about 60 to 70.
Sure, the shots got harder to make, but I knew my capabilities going in and my expectations were not that high. In other words, as my skills diminished it seemed as though my mental game got a lot tougher.
They came in droves to play the old "has been" in Phoenix, but a lot of them didn't like it, and the ones that did, knew they had earned it.
I may sound like I'm bragging, and maybe I am, but I think I have earned the right. Let me give you a list of guys who will verify all the smoke I'm blowin'.... RA, Richie Richeson, Bill Cress, Monk Costanza, Jack Cooney, Scott Frost, Gabe Owens and a lot of other guys who thought they had a birds nest on the ground. (sorry guy's, no rematches now.) ;)
I'm proud of the fact that I hung in there as long as I did, and I see by you woofing back at JoeyA that you still have a little fire in the belly.
Hang in there Bud, You can still play with the best of 'em.

Dick

PS. By the way, which Jack Taylor story is Charlie talking about ? I only have about 200 of them.

You were a player and always played a notch obove me and that is just the plain truth of it. It's not so much I don't think I can play anymore as I'm not so sure about the desire or the time it takes to get there and stay there.

Pool is such a funny game. When you are young, if you cn see it, you think it should fall in. You reach apoint where you start to learn and duck situation. You just automaticly see them and avoid them. Then you wake up one day and realize some things are easier, and wonder why in the hell did I make this game so tough for so long.

I haven't so much reached the age that I think I can't or won't do it as much as I'm not sure I want to put the time in to stay ther.To play my best, it seemed I always had to play a bit more than most and really stay at it. Now with diabetese, bad kness, shoulders, and Siatic nerve problems, I have become fond of how I feel in the mornings when I take time off. Partss wake up quicker than they used to.

Charlie was telling me the one about Jack meeting his old high school seetheart at the reunion and who was now married and in a finanacial bind. He said Jack offered to help. I don't want to say anymore as it would ruin it. I laughed so hard and laughed at Charlie and the way he told it.

Charlie is quite a guy and I feel fortunate to call him a friend.

I hear you Lewis. I had a 24 hr. session recently with a local guy here and it took me a week to recover. I'm Still way too hard-headed. I was stuck pretty good at one time, and got close to even and the poor youngster (he's 29) got tired and quit. I was lucky he did.
Yes I know that JT story Charlie told you and you are right, it is way to R-Rated for a public forum. Did you know Jack is 82 now. He lives in Galveston and got wiped out by the last big one there. PM me your email address and I'll send you some pics I got from Alfie. You must have missed my last PM asking about Charlie ?

congrats on the 24 hr. session, i believe i'll pass on the rematch as it would take me 5 or 6 day to play 24 hrs. jack taylor called me yesterday, first time in a year or so, wanted to come visit and see his old friends before he dies (probably the bite). BTW he's 81yrs young, he's lied about his age so much over the years,(mostly to women and stakehorses) he probably doesn't remember himself.

I didn't realize he was that old.
Yep, I got your PM and thought I had answered it. Sorry.

Charlie is fine but staying busy. He is at the Houston Open this weekend and said he would call you when he gets home next week. He is doing just fine.
I'll stay on him and make sure he calls. I like fussing at him a bit anyway.

Are you and Rodney or Charlie going to DCC this year ? It would be great to see you all again. We could steer each other around and make a small fortune. (of course we'd have to start out with a big one.) ;)

I'm thinking on it, but just haven't made up my mind yet. My wife and I are going home for Christmas and so forth and then I start this tour the week before, so I just don't know yet.
I bet we could twist Charlies arm though. He can get easy{stubborn too} at times.
Maybe we could all stake Rodney. I would drink or I mean watch it.

no pool tournaments for me, although i'd love to see you guys. i don't believe i want any part of twisting charlies arm, never saw him lose an arm wrestling match when he was younger, although he never wanted to do it.

Hell, I wouldn't want to grab the old Faarts arm now and he is near 80. He is though, a good man.
