They made a movie...

lots of gambling but not tied to gangsters, mafia, drunkards, etc. but centered on one persons fictious life with background on their rise to a compelling win over destiny. they should have a honest stake horse who manages this persons wealth and fame, who is reiterting his life of high class gambling while partnered with this person (and all the wins mostly) . like many superior talents the person should have some quirks that set them apart from the average pool player. gerald

Yes Gerald, But it must be without gambling, The way I read life is we may get gambling back in from the top and not from the bottom, I believe all pool movies should have a pocket billiard game... Maybe even with some Reyes shots... Home spund centered around a life and pool... Guy

Unless it was something like a junior working their way up to a top level, I just don’t see it.

And even then, it would likely just feel like a remake of so many other sports stories with nothing more than a different game involved.

Put me in the no category…
David, Ever notice most of the movies ever made are based on parts of real and actual happenings... Guy

Try this storyline: There once was this orange phenolic orb and he went by the name of 'FiveBall'. For years people left him alone to do his thing and times were good. Then one day this evil witch from an island in the Atlantic decided that FiveBall needed a new suit. Imagine the horror when FiveBall woke up and realized he was now this gawdawful shade of purple. Ok, that's the basics. Figure Tarentino will finish it. ;)
Watch the animation as we read... Still lots of Orange 5s sets on the market... The movie would get all of us involved to help Pool... I think in Hollywood a thousand is still worth more than one... Guy

If a movie director has their shorts in knots as much as pool players do about gambling and the image of pool, I hope they NEVER make another pool movie. You folks are sick. Standing around wringing your hands about pools image... pathetic.

This isn't Sunday School folks... people gamble in/at pool.

IMAGE isn't the problem, INDIFFERENCE and IGNORANCE is. It's hitting balls around with a stick, nothing worth seeing there, they don't even tackle, slam dunk, hit home runs, or score a goal in that dumb game. Hell, the only use the tables in most mcmansions get is a hot wheel track for the kids.

What we really need is a Sons Of Anarchy style show about pool. The seedier, the better. We need suburbanites who are bored with life and living a tame life to venture out to play pool with pockets full of cash. They think they can be the next Walter White, and we get their next mortgage payment. It's a win win for pool players. We don't need sponsorship money when any B player can make $500 a week robbing chumps.

Sometimes to win at pool you have to be a dick. Stop wringing your hands at pools image and make some fuggin' bank with it for once. 🤷‍♂️
That is our sick world as you see it and will take it with you, Your wright this is way we are thought all our lives, Then we need to quite sniveling about loosing, I just thought maybe I could see the team in us and It might work... Again your wright it won't as individuals... Guy

I remember the Hustler movie when it first came out i did not like and wouldn't watch all of it, I thought it was a put down... Guy

Gambling need not be the center focus but as in any sports there is gambling and it shouldn’t be kept a secret in the movie. Very high stakes super players ungodly looking shots incredible wins. Ultimately maybe making it an Olympic sport. Why be opposed to gambling when With the human race since Christ day and before

I not apposed to gambling... But I'm only me, one person... I keep getting the impression from reading the forum that we are trying to better pool ... I'm been on here listening to members complain about money no more good in pool gambling , if this be true forget gambling and work together on pool... Anything positive... Guy ...

What I'm talking about is selling pool , Not bad ass or War, Just Pool ... A life of a good people, Yes a do gooder, a hallmark life... We don't need the Europeans to keep wiping our butts... WhT we are doing wrong we are smart enough to fix, Aren't we... Guy
In Europe (I’m here now) they have youth training systems and more discipline than we do in America. They are working hard on becoming better than us. They just haven’t got the memo-they are better.

Also we have kids playing and coming up on 7’ tables. That’s not helping either. Economic conditions-rents. Force many rooms to have smaller tables to keep overhead reasonable and stay in biz. And on the note in LA where I’m living we have 18-20M people and a hand full of places to play. Kids don’t know what pool is.

Our champions got old. We know what time does a man’s pool game. It’s not good. There’s no young guys coming up.

That’s the root of the problem

Best

Spot on.

Its reflected in the results these days.

Sadly pool is one of a 1000 things in which this is happening.

America set the bar many years ago.

Got comfortable and now are regressing.

There’s a old saying:

Fat dogs don’t hunt

That’s the truth, America got fat both ways (in their ways and waist lines)

I’m not knocking America-I love America and I’d love to be proved wrong. Sure we still kick ass in lots of things in life and are the best. But that pole position in the world we once enjoyed is slowly eroding away.

Eric we are going the wrong direction and it's our own fault... Was Mike Howverton wright when he said to me no one in this country cares... We sure don't like the equation of that... Guy

Young people admire bald men.

Michael Jordan, Shaq, The Rock, Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Patrick Stewart, Bruce Willis, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, ... are all bald men and highly influential.

These bald men inspired generations of Americans to say Yippy Kay yay or stick their tongue out, the force is with you, or beam me up.

The secret to building popularity is bald men. Pool has too many good looking guys today, it's like looking at a fashion show for men.

Bring back the bodytypes more representative of the population as a whole.

If a pool movie is made there should be more heavyweight players and more bald guys. Tradition and heritage is loss when people start deciding what a pool player bodytype should be.

wow! lots of emotional way out content even bordering on the political in this thread. pool is a mind, hand, eye co-ordination type of game at the least, and requires one, usually to go somewhere to play. i think with the explosion of tech games, where one can play at home, a person doesnt have to get off the couch. another thought is that competitively speaking, a person playing a electronic game, regardless of its nature, they dont actually see their competitor as they would in pool. i believe many a person prefers that sort of competition because of less emotional embarrasement. god knows ive lost many a game and practically cried, but also won many with much jubilation. as a general cliche kids these days dont want to be embarrased.

'Tradition and heritage is loss when people start deciding what a pool player body type should be.' Isn't that what you just did?

Great pool without gambling is like a banana split without bananas. It just ain't possible.
You left out the with us, not possible... What about the world thats changing, There's lots of pool games on this earth with no gamblin... No gambling, no smoking, no booze, Pool in our world it's changing... Guy

It's true that 'family' pool rooms are populated by kids and parents, and that's fine. I'm glad that smoking is prohibited. It stunk up the rooms. Drinking is still allowed in many establishments but you can't play great pool if you're drunk, no matter what Fats and Eddie did in 'The Hustler'. But I was talking about 'great' pool; the top echelon of players. There's always going to be money changing hands. If not between the players, then among the spectators. It just ain't interesting playing pool for fun.
