It's sad to say but the game of pool is still light years away from becoming anything more than a THIRD WORLD GAME.
As I sit at my computer, I have the rest of the world at my finger tips. But am I or the rest of the billiard community taking full advantage of the luxury. I don't think we are. We seem to be more content fighting and arguing with each other instead looking at different ways to pull the game we claim to love and care about out of the DARK AGES.
Reading a lot of the threads and posts on the main forum the topic of conversation is centered around the recent event in Galveston. Evidently things didn't go as well as they could have when it came to dishing out the money.
It's a shame they didn't get the turn-out they needed, and probably deserved, to pay out the money they evidently, promised.
Today's economy and the fact that the tournament started on SEPT. 11, I'm not a big fan of flying around this particular day, and was held in Galveston, Texas. Not the most central location in the country, probably had an effect on the turn out.
I've kinda gone off the beaten track here but the bottom line is the game needs a major shot in the arm.
The last good thing to happen to the game was the Color of Money. Unfortunately, the game and the people running it weren't organized enough to take full advantage of the situation. They grabbed as much as they could as fast as they could. Many of them are now out of business.
We need to organize and possibly unionize to show the world we're a force. There are over fifteen million pool players in the U. S. alone. We could swing elections in many states. But sitting on our as*es in front of our computers fighting amongst ourselves isn't going to pull the game out of the crisis its facing.
I've said enough. I just think we could do better. Anyone else thinks this way. Private message me. I'd like to hear your ideas.
