friend of mine mentioned something similiar when he visited honolulu, long ago..... race to 2, $5 entry. i might be off on specifics.

it drew a huge field. it was like a weekly or monthly event.
 
Sounds like a good idea to me. The field must be huge! Is there a maximum number of players?

I'm thinking 64, certainly not more than 128. I'll have to ask and find out for sure. There's a Pro event the same day in Orlando and that should get all the TOP local players. I don't know how to get the word around the tri-city area and assure a big turnout. They'll certainly never get enough players (350) to break even on the payout... This sounds like inexpensive big time Fun to me... (now, if they'd only have FREE beer TOO.... ) yeehaaaaa !
 
Hi Doug, Isn't Miller the owner there? Sounds like he is offering quite a deal to his patrons. A race to 2 and then 1 anyone can win. I'll bet there will be some really good players losing and not even getting a turn at the table in their match. Sounds like it will be a lot of fun. Of course it could turn into a real fiasco if they get a really big turn-out. But it should move pretty fast. Jake
 
Ken Miller is a Nice Guy(good player also) and Planet 9-Ball is a well setup place. Good Luck SB and I'm sure you will be at Pro in Orlando for the finals on Sunday :)

(I believe you know who I am by now....I plan on still being in on $unday)

This is a New One on Me

Hi Smorgass Bored,

Several years ago here in Upstate New York, we had a series of twelve monthly 8 Ball barbox tournaments. There was a different venue each month, with a year end final tournament paying $1000 to the winner. The game was race to one on both sides of the board. You must get at least one shot at the table each set. That shot maybe a rebreak if your opponent breaks and runs out. Entry fee was $12 per month, rising to $15 after a couple of years. The entry was generally 40+ players per.

In Vegas, there are lots of bars that run weekly tournaments with no entry fee and at least $100 added. Now thats incredible!

at race to 2, there was no limit on the field/

it especially sucks if you're playing a C player who gets lucky and runs 1 rack and sinks the 9 on the break on another rack,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,AND YOU'RE EFREN REYES!!!!
 
This is the exact format (2 winners/1 losers) that I use when I run the weekly 8/9-ball tourneys. It's amazing what can happen to a better player during a 9-ball match to 1!! I have won the last 5 tournaments, 2nd the one before the 5th and then 3 consecutive 1st places after that. I like format, fast and easy!

I AM a cheese-chasing 'C' player and I'd LOVE to get to play Efren for only a dollar entry. You think he'll show ? I also wouldn't mind playing with some of those 'TV poolplayin wimmin' (and you can guess which ones).. Yeehaaaaaaaaaa !

Well, I'm not sure who you are and when I tried to think of who you might be, I came to the realization that ALL my poolplaying acquaintances are RUTHLESS. I saw by your 'profile' that you were born in April of '65, so you're just a puppy (compared to me). Feel free to tell me exactly who you are,so I can pull for you in Orlando. OK ?
 
Once again...Danny D, you have no clue about me or who I am or how I play! The reason we run this format is because of the alotted time for the tournament. And to clarify what you think...it's not a race to 1 smart*ss, it's race to 2 winners and 1 game on losers. I've lost 2 games TOTAL in 5 weeks! The reason I'm winning is simple, I can run ALL 9 BALLS, plus some, thank you! I don't know who you are, where you play, how you play, or how much money you make playing, do I slam you about your game...NO!! So, in return don't slam someone you don't know, okay!! All posts are welcomed here, but slamming someone for NO REASON, is complete childish and ignorant and most of the regulars here wont put up with it!!

Hey Smorgass, I like your style! I like a good game of 1 hole too although I can't play for beans. I'm old and blind and I can't hardly stand at the table for more than a couple of minutes at a time. If some big bad-ass roadie was to give me all the nuts, gee, I might have to play some too! I mean I'm so impressed with the way this guy talks about himself, he's got to be one helluva player huh? Wow, and we're on the same board with him!! Are you as impressed as I am?
