This is what I miss

You may want to rethink that. If you are talking about your home table you practice on you want a pretty fast table at least close to what you play on at the pool rooms. The reason being it is easy to adapt to a slower table from a fast table no problem. If you are used to a slow table though and have to go to a fast table, it will have you all over the place even to the point of being afraid to shoot. It could take you all night and you are still all over the place. Just something to think about.

If there were any pool halls around here, that might be something to consider. I have a couple of friends with tables, but mostly we play on my table. So, no problem.

Don't know why anyone would like slow cloth...
..it's like putting on a green that aint been mowed.
The spin doesn't stay on very long...
..so it reduces your options.
How can that be good?

Don't care if pockets are 4.5 or 5 in.
But if they're smaller...you can afford to miss..and you have to play more
safeties..is this what you want pool to be like?
I've missed lots playing on trap snooker tables and still won the game.

I like pool to be fast and dangerous...
...IF YOU MISS...YOU LOSE

Slow cloth requires a slightly different style of play, both in stroking and planning. You're right that the spin doesn't stay on as long, and that knowledge must be part of your game. It doesn't limit your options, but it does sometimes provide a different set of options. It's still easy enough to draw the cue ball the length of the table, so I don't see any real problem with the amount of spin available.

Do you envision more safeties because of slow cloth, or because of smaller pockets? Safety play is up to the player, period. Myself, I like small pockets and have been thinking about going down to four inches.

You like pool to be "fast and dangerous," so slow cloth is obviously not for you. I prefer a somewhat more relaxed, more cerebral game. Neither game is better or worse than the other; they are just different. Some people like broccoli, while others gag at the thought of it.
