Is There Any Difference in Ivory?
Is there any difference in the appearance or strength or weight of the ivory that's culled from the base of the tusk where it's the most thick versus ivory harvested from the thinner curve area or down towards the tip of the tusk. I know there can be a difference in wood that's from various parts & sections of a tree cut for wood. I'm just curious if the same applied to ivory. For example, is older ivory any different from young ivory, ex, a 8 ft tusk versus a 4 ft tusk or for that matter, is elephant ivory any different from other ivories like hippo or walrus or any others?
