Thomas Aaron Table?

I just bought a real wood 8' table made by Thomas Aaron for my house, to be delivered Wednesday, I am 17 and this is my first table. I've been saving for a long while for a table and I've read about a few different brands.

I finally saved up $2000 and thought I would go down to my local billiards shop and take a look at what they have.

Well, the man selling the tables showed me them and explained a lot, and they had two brands there - I believe the first was AMF and the other was Thomas Aaron, TA looked to be a lot nicer than AMF from an uneducated standpoint. He had a model that just went out of production but had nothing wrong with it there, and it was on sale for that reason at $1800, the model is called the Deerfield.

I'm wondering what you guys think of the brand, model, and price?

I'll be checking back for replies consistently.

Thanks in advance everyone,
Alex

That's quite an investment for a young dude. Congratulations! I know you'll be thrilled with having a table. :D

I've not heard of the brand so I can't comment on that. Prior to delivery check to see that you are getting a slate bed, good cloth and good balls.

Edit: I just googled their website. The Deerfield was not show but their site did say that all tables use a 1" slate. That's good news! Now just make sure it has good cloth. You don't have to have Simonis. Just make sure it's as nice wool/nylon blend that is not "nappy".. a nice flat weave. Championship Ultra is good as I remember but others here are much more knowledgable than I so ask around. The store will want you to settle for a cheap cloth. Don't do it.

Yes, it is

It is listed under the 'Advantage' menu item.

Here is a picture of it. They have some real nice looking tables, and the construction specs and details seem good. K66 rubber.

Although you probably should have asked for advice before you bought it but from reading the other posts it appears you made a good choice.
Let us know how it plays.

I was wishing we would have had a chance to advise before the purchase too but it looks llike a good deal was made. I finally found it on their site too and the table looks very beautiful in the pics.. I can see why you bought it :D

Now make sure you get quality cloth... NOT felt! I'd advise to push for the good cloth. Maybe you get the salesman to help out with a deal on the good cloth by pushing for both cloth and balls! Then you can back off on the ball deal and he'll feel good about giving you the upgrade on cloth. You can always upgrade the balls later? Just a thought.

Even if he had to pay a little extra for the cloth upgrade it would be better then the cheap cloth.

As others have already said. Good cloth is as important as a level table IMHO..

Thanks a lot everyone for the quick replies, they have been of much help. I have called the billiards shop where I purchased the table and changed my cloth order from felt to cloth and will be buying good balls for the table soon.

Thanks again everyone!

Very glad to hear that! You'll be really glad you got the good cloth.

For balls do a goggle search and check out the prices. You'll want Centennial (my favorites because they look cool.. imo) or Aramith Super Pro or at the least Aramith Pro (big price difference and the Pro's are probably as good as you'll ever need).

Whenever you want to know anything about pool you just come to az and ask. There are expert players, cue makers, table mechanics... everything here and everybody is helping everybody. You got lucky with this table purchase but in the future you'll really want to research things w/the experts here. You will notice that most posters don't reveal much personal information in their profile. That's a good example for you to follow.

So...... You're about to become a hermit! If you have a girlfriend.... forgidaboutit, she'll be hitting the road soon, unless she plays!!!. Watch your grades because you won't have time for homework.. better stay after school and do that. Tell your folks to forget about any chores around the house.... ain't got time. But at least your folks will know where you and your friends are :D My grandsons indirectly got me back to practicing because they got a table and I gotta practice so I can continue to beat up on them.

What cue do you play with?

I have a Predator Sneaky Cue and a Viking Jump/Break Cue. :)

COOL! Sounds like you are ready to go! Let us know how the table works out for you.

I got my first table about 7 years ago and that was a very memorable day in my life. I only had to wait about 45 years to get it after I first knew I wanted one.

Hey everyone,

Sorry I've been slow to post the results, and thanks to everyone who helped out, but here I am.

I am very pleased with the table! I had to go through a lot to make room for it in my house, and then I had some worries during the install but it all worked out wonderfully and the table is great. I upgraded the cloth, got the Aramith Super Pro balls, table plays great - couldn't be happier - except...

The room the table went into ended up being a bit too small and I had to buy a 52" and 48" cue for tight shots, which gets REALLY annoying. I'm really wishing I had went with a 7' x 3 1/2' table, but I got what I got. If any of you have any recommendations about this, please do say so because it is really depressing after all I did to make this possible.

I'm off for now to go play in a tournament but I'm taking my laptop with me so I'll be checking on this thread regularly. I hope to hear back from everyone.

Thanks in advance,
Alex
