This is what I was left with the other night at League night. The other player I was playing a stronger player than me and had the 9ball, and left me as indicated above. Rather than the cut I banked the 8 full table, which is a low percentage shot for me, probably 3 out of 10. The cut shot is a higher percentage, I don't know why, but i can just see it. I played the bank with the thought in mind that if I missed the cue ball would stay around point A. I did a pocket speed bank on the ball. Looking at it, I thought it was the smarter play, but some of the stronger players that have played with me before said that I should have went for the cut, because it was my stronger shot.

I know a lot of you have analyzed much harder shots in the passed, but just curious if you would go for the cut or the bank?

If you're playing call pocket.

One thing is whether or not these are bar boxes or nine foots. but I think I would play it the same either way. I would bank it a little wide to play it off the nine.

Your margin of error can be higher because you have the nine to carom off of and if you hit it a little firm it will still go in dead. If you hit it a little too wide then you have a good chance of safetying him behind the eight, this is eight ball right?

With the 9 as a sideboard, you are more likely to make the shot, however if you leave the cueball downtable, you could have a crummy shot on the 9.

I say bank it with a little top to get the cueball a ways back down table...

Oops! I thought it was 9-ball!

Bank bank bank! I this case... if you miss, you could block the 9... good play!

Yes it was the 8-ball.

A two-way shot, though, doubles up your percentages. So if you think you can leave someone with a shot they'll only make 5/10 times, that's 5/10 in your favor. If the bank is 3/10, you're now 8/10 to either make the shot or not leave your opponent with a shot.

If you can make the cut 8/10 times, it's a push, but I'd compare those averages.
