Three-cushion on a pool table.

I practice 3C on a pool table about half of the time I am on one. I am the only one I've ever seen do this consistently. It is more fun for me than most pool games, except for maybe straight pool and one pocket.

Since I already know the feel between both kinds of tables, I give myself a break and count a score if the line is perfectly tracked with 3C speed but the speed runs out because of the pool cloth. Pockets are just annoying obstacles and I wish they weren't there, of course. Other than a long drive to Boston it is all I can do. Most shots don't require playing out of a dead corner so it works OK, or you can bend the shots with top to fix the angle.

Despite the clear differences between a carom table and a pool table, the skills learned kind-of translate pretty well. Whenever I do get to visit a carom table I am suprised of my progress. It only has improved my game, not hindered it, even with different rail, cloth and dimensional qualities.

The benefits are worth it, and it is more fun than traditional drills. Even 1-cushion is fun enough, or bank-first carom.

I highly suggest every pool player try this.

try carom pocket inserts. don't know who makes them now, but used to be on ebay a few years ago
I saw those, they were around $500 last time I saw a price. I was thinking of making economical ones but I don't really see a lot of sales.

Somewhat related is I like to play 3C on Shooterspool. The simulation seems to be remarkably accurate.

Been at pool table billiards since the 90s. These days with only one table bars, that means, "whenever I can get a table by myself". Be that as it may, billiards on a pool table isolates cue ball control and elevates its priority to a level exceeding the requirements of simple pool. For example, you might miss a multi rail billiard all day but if you ever need that line for position, you've already got it.

I do this too. No billiard table, who cares.

On a side note, I've looked at those inserts... Anyone actually use them and can tell us if they are any good?

I play a game that is similar to carambola. Hitting both balls with the cue ball gets one point, hitting both and sinking one gets 2, and sinking both gets 4. I haven't needed to require hitting cushions to challenge myself but I guess you could.

I've seen a thing that is a complete set of rails that sit inside the rails on a pool table. I haven't seen the pocket inserts but what I am imagining seems like a mediocre solution.

I'll play 3 cushion on a pocket billiard table once in awhile when I get bored banging balls.
Side pockets are a pain in the ass though especially when you know making the billiard
requires you to hit the rail where the side pocket is.
