Three piece slat seam separation question

Apologies if this has been covered before, but my searches didn't seem to turn up anything quite right.

I have an AMF Playmaster that was last recovered about 10 years ago. I noticed tonight that I could tell where the seam was for about a 12 inch span, centered right below the head spot. Towards the edges, the seam still feels fairly smooth. It doesn't seem to have an effect on the balls rolling...not a perceptible change anyway, but I can hear it as the ball rolls over it.

Does this usually mean the slate is warped, or could it be that the cement or sealant has simply given out after that long a period? I'm due for a recover at some point in the next year or two and hope this is something that can be rectified. Is it fairly normal?

Thank you.
