I have an opportunity to purchase a Danny Tibbitts circa 1985 cue.... Can anyone please help with a ball park value?

unfortunately
my bias is
the only answers you will get are cue sellers looking to buy your cue and flip it
and tell you its worth way less than true market value
if i wanted to know the value of a cue
id pm or email the well known cue sellers and ask them for their appraisal and pay them for the consultation
making it clear they will never see the cue
jmho
no disrespect intended to anybody
edit
btw
NICE CUE.........................

I certainly agree and understand,.... But anyone anything about value is welcomed! I have an email into Danny Tibbitts, and a mutual friend of Danny and I is checking with Danny. I have had people in the FB groups say 4-5k

I know nothing about Tibbitts cues, but what I can say is the few I've seen have been listed for no less than 3k and on average probably closer to four.

I'm not sure what the "market" is on this cue today, It will sell for what someone will pay or stay home... I know that sounds a lot like what "Captain Obvious" would say, some of us know who that is..lol ;).. but in today's market what it "should' be worth is sometimes hard to figure out.. In past markets I could see this cue going for 5K+ easy..at least that's what I might have paid if it had come up for sale 10 years ago..All it takes is 1 who wants it...

From what I've seen, and I have been steadily shopping for a Tibbits cue with flat ivory joint the past 3 years, Danny Tibbits cues have dropped in value but so have pretty much every brand cue-maker. There's been a few Tibbits sales on the Forum and Cornerstone Cues has a monster Tibbits cue listed @$8250 but it's way more cue than this one.

I can's say with certainty what this cue's value is but I know the market is very soft for even Danny;s cues. Having said that, let me say what I would pay for this cue which I think is more valuable than the Tibbits' cues I've seen on the Forum listed at the $4k mark......and one was under $4k. Anyway, I would think this cue is a bargain in the mid to upper 4k range.......and I'd even venture into the $5k range to buy this cue but that's about it. However, I max the cue value....or what I would pay for this cue.......in the mid 5k range....I imagine it would probably list in the upper $5k range but realistically sell for lower $5k......again, that's what I would pay.....someone else might go $10,000....of course, I doubt that and used that figure to illustrate it is worth what someone is willing to pay.

The 3 cue-makers I search for all the time is Hercek, Prewitt and Tibbits but the cue has to have a flat ivory joint and weigh under 19 ounces.....preferably mid-18 ozs......and for that reason, I am still looking as those cues are hard to find.......I found just such a cue last year and picked it up right away.......if this Tibbits cue was in the mid 18 ounces, please do not post that detail because it would make me very, very envious.

Thanks Matt! If I buy it, and end up not liking it, I may let ya know. BTW 18.75 and 18.9 oz's depending on which shaft

Captain....thank you....I am definitely interested in the cue with the specs you mentioned. You might want to check about
this cue's likely value with Cleiton Rocha or Bill Grassley at Cornerstone Cues whom I hold in the highest regard.

Cue values are a funny issue........it's contrast.......if a Szamboti cue sells for $9500 but the cue is judged to be worth thousands more......people see that
and think, well, even the best cues aren't fetching full value........presuming that anyone even reliably knows what full value is nowadays.

I base price on rarity and scarcity.........the first is how many of those type cues did the cue-maker make......how many cues in general.....is the cue-maker out
of the business or deceased or just very low production.... that's the rarity factor.

The scarcity is how many are available today....or have been available within the last year, two years........3 years.......which is how long I've actively been looking.
So if and when a cue pops up to one's liking, and you have a feel for the two aforementioned factors, and have pretty good familarity with current cue prices, or you' d
like to think so, you can then assign a price to the cue that is reflective of the current market.

And it seems like.most sellers over-estimate their cue's value & most buyers will quibble over the asking price....everyone wants or thinks they're entitled to a bargain in this resale market.
