Tiger Break Tips

How does the Tiger break tip compare to other leather options like a hard wb etc. Durability, miscue potential, overall performance factors, how popular are they is the type of information Im looking for. Also, what ferrule works well with it, harder ferrules like ivorine 4 , or the saber t etc?

I heard that the talisman bk tip is the HARDEST leather tip on the market. I'm assuming from that info that they last for a very long time.

I've used a Tiger J/B tip, Talisman BK, non-layered WB, and a Sumo tip. Out of all the tips, hardness wise I would rate the Tiger as the hardest, followed closely by the Talisman, then a further way back the Sumo, then even further back (at least the 2 I tried) the WB. The WB's I got were pretty bad; they mushroomed like crazy (even though they were supposed to be x-hard) and felt a lot like a Lepro to me (maybe I got a couple of bad ones?) The Tiger and Talisman tips didn't mushroom at all, and the Sumo mushroomed ever so slightly; after cutting it flush the first time, it didn't mushroom again. All the tips hold chalk pretty well; as for miscuing, the harder tips tend to miscue slightly more than the softer ones. For the money, I would go with the Sumo as they are relatively cheap (around $25 for a box of 50) compared to the Talisman ($6-$10 ea.) and the Tiger ($9-$15 ea.). The only complaint I have of the Sumo is the red coating it comes with out of the box is kind of messy when installing it; after install though, you shouldn't be able to tell it ever had a coating on it. Hope this info is sort of what you're looking for.

Problem with Sumos are that chunks seem to fly out of the tip quite often. Maybe it's a bad batch I've encountered but they aren't that good anymore.

I'll have to watch for that; I've been using this one for a couple months and like it so far. If a chunk comes out on me, I'll know it's not an isolated incident and look for something else to use.

That happens often with Sumo & WB. For a leather break tip you can do no better than the red SuperPro layered tip sold by Prathers.:)
