Tightening the pockets on a GC3

I am seriously considering getting a overhaul on my 9 foot GC3 with new cloth and rubber. I was wondering if the new rails would be the only thing that would be required as far as making the pockets vastly tighter then they are at present. I figure they are about 4.5 or so and I would want them at least down to 4 if not 3 7/8.

How doable is this? Is it easy to get the pockets that small and still have them play consistent on shots down the rail and from the center of the table? Are the pockets going to look normal or would doing this cause the rubber to extend in some weird way into the pocket?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

pockets

Do a search on sub rails. That is the best way.Glen and Donny, both have good pictures up.I would not tighten them over 4"s at the mouth. Mine are 4 1/8" and if you go much more than that, you will not be able to ride the rail and make a ball.

If its an original GC3 then the pockets are 5" point to point. You would need to extend the wood on the subrails before installing the new cushions so they are cut to correct length.

Highly recommend you send the rails to someone. There is far more to this than you may realize. Consider that smaller pockets need to have a different angle on the pocket opening to accept a ball with a reasonable amount error. This is amongst many things.... These guys that have done this over and over again know all the ins and outs.

Wow, that is alot more involved then I would have thought. Unfortunately I am nowhere near OC and I would imagine the shipping on the rails would be pretty costly.

What does the job itself cost to get this type of work done?

If you send me the rails and cushions
