I have one of Tim cues with a SS joint, I want to try a solid ivory jointed cue from Tim one of these days. Just the opposite of you.
Not a Scruggs, but...
I don't own a Scruggs, but my player is a Cochran that was Mikes personal cue. I have been fortunate enough to spend an afternoon at Tim's shop just talking cues/pool with Mike and Tim. I can't imagine there being two better guys to get to know in the business. This is my Cochran. The veneers are black/black/blue/violet. The joint is stainless 5/16 and is engraved as well. I believe it is the only joint he has done this way.

I've had a few Scruggs over the years, but never had a chance to get one of his old early ones.
I recently traded for one of his early sneaky petes, wood to wood, no extra anythings, and have to say that I was blown away.
It was definately worth the wait of all these years before finding it.
I'm sure that's no secret to a large number of AZ'ers, but for once I have to give some big Kudos to a guys early work. How they just keep getting better is beyond me, because I don't know that I would have changed a thing-

Ok, so we're hitting Scruggs now. My main playing cue is a James White but my Scruggs is one helluva cue. I wouldn't trade it for anything, and I mean that. Gus Szamboti could come back to life and toss me his entire line and I wouldn't trade for this cue.....well, maybe I would, but you know what I mean.
I bought this cue used for 900.00. Sent photos to Tim asking if he had any idea how old it is and he said it's probably from around 1983 or so. Love this cue with all my heart. I orginally bought it for resale, because it was so cheap, but I hit one ball with it and knew right then that selling it wasn't an option. It's fairly simple but I hope you guys like it.

All I'm able to do is rotate my damn avatar pictures. I know not how to post pictures. I need my girlfriend to do most computer things I'm illiterate here. I will see if I have a bigger better I will show the butt( hug ivory cut at angle to show off the ivory, and I was told the cue was made for the bar table,and the ivory ferrules are cut using the outside edge of ivory for strength I think. I live in a cold climate too I wish I had never took it out of the house all winter. And the shaft wood was bowling alley wood 85 yrs.old. golden brown heavy shafts 4 oz. can't even rotate sorry. but I added some content about the cue thanks mark it is stunning and definatly hand cut

i was posting to anito kid while looking at the scruggs listings, I was asking him to help identify a fillippino cue the ambonya burl. What I was going to post here was this summer in Mich. I was told tim bought his wood from this guy for yrs. and he was one to pick 301/2 length birdseye from 300. logs I bought 8 such pieces cherry picking. Birdseyecreations.com mark

I have only ever used Tim's cues and all of them have been ss joints. I would love to try ivory sometime in the future but can't really afford another cue at the moment. Below are 2 of my players. The green one was my first cue I played with for about 7 years and has since gone into semi-retirement because of the other one I acquired with the stars. I'ts one of his early masterpieces in my opinion because it plays so freaking great. Amazing shafts too! It's from 1980...

I know exactly what you Guys mean.
Bought this Scruggs. Just wanted it to keep in my collection.
Then i hit a couple of Test Racks just to check it out. Steel Jointed, Ivory Ferrels.
The experience i had just knocked me off. The Hit was absolutely awesome...best hitting cue i had. And the Cue looks classy too.
I am definetely a Scruggs Fan now.

Yep still have this conversion.....I got real lucky that week just from hangin around and getting to know some of the good folks here on AZ
It was a weird turn of events but, I'm very thankful to have this cue -- it is probably IMHO the 2nd Best hitting cue that I have

Here's a couple of pics. A variety of joint & pin construction, in my small TS collection. The sneakie is an old one, the shaft weights 4.5 oz. and the cue doesn't feel forward balanced, it is an amazing player
