tip and ferrule question

i need a few opinions on tip and ferrule differences as far as the way the contact the cue .
i have tried different tips not ferrules and i seem to miscue more with a hard tip, i switched to soft tip and like the hit . doesnt have that clunk or ping but i cannot get very much action on the ball , most noticably on follow and draw.
i have actually drawn the furtherest with a white diamond tip using a bridge (about a table and a half 8 footer).
i though the softer tip would stick or apply more english than hard,
how about the ferrule ? i have been using the ivorine 3 , it is pretty hard, could the be the reason ?
any and all opinions wanted.

thanks, carl

You would assume that a soft tip, that sticks to the cue ball longer imparts the most English but I'm afraid this is not true. Just the opposite as it holds onto the cue ball, not releasing it to spin as much as it could have. A multi-polymer, soft, springy ferrule like on a Meucci will give a little more juice along with a harder tip. The main thing to do to get consistent draw/ follow and spin on the cue is to practice to improve your stroke and follow through.

Chalk thoroughly before shooting. Also use a file to rough up the tip surface once in a while.

Could be humidity, ball grease and different table cloth you were playing on. Clean balls are easy to draw than dirty ball.

soft tip hard tip?

I have found that the better the player the better the tip thay can control!
Take a #3 bca and give the player a hard moorie as anew tip and the player will have a hard time controlling the cue.
Come back in 3 months And that player will have control of that cue.

Yes ferrule dose have a lot to do with the play of ur cue.
I have taken a simple MC D Change the ferrule and tip and some taper it it will change all.

Its up to you to understand what u like.

Thanks all.

Rvan.
