TIP diameter

I am hopefully having a carom shaft made for my Viguerra butt and I am trying to decide on the tip diameter to go with.

One suggestion I got was 11.5 mm. Is that too narrow for a rank beginner at 3C?

My Mariposa has a12mm. I am not sure if it is the tip diameter on that one that bothers me or the taper. It is not real gradual conical taper. Ie it has a narrow section at the tip and then gets fat real fast.

Thanks for any thoughts

Most of the players I know use 12mm and thicker to prevent cue miss.
However, I prefer 11 to 11.5mm for better spin. I know this player who sands his tip down to 10mm or less. Never seen any other players like this. Just a personal Preference.

I may be wrong but I always thought a smaller tip was good for penetration while a bigger tip was good for spin in 3_C? I use a little over 12mm tip for 3_C and use a 11mm tip for libre (straight rail).

It seemed like the bigger tip helped me with spinning the ball at 3c speed while the smaller tip was good for drawing and following the cue ball without putting to much speed on the first object ball in straight rail..
