TIP HARDNESS what's it Mean

Was looking throught the Mueller Catalog, :) and they each RATE TIPS HARDNESS they sell...:eek:

Like Morri Hard gets a 82.7 Rating


Tiger Hard gets a 81.0 Rating


Can not find a Rating for Hurcules.


BUT what do these number MEAN??

There is a material hardness testing device called a "durometer". This tests how hard something is.

One tip which is called "hard" can be quite different from another tip called hard from a different manufacturer. Many times tips from the *same* box can contain soft, medium, and hard tips even though the box says medium tips.

Testing with a durometer will give an accurate hardness of a tip.

So the number shown is more accurate than just saying hard tip, medium tip, or soft tip.

They also use certain types of durometers to test the hardness of rubber or tires for example.
