tip instalation?

There is a tip installer here: when I give him my cues, for new tips.

When I get my cue back, the tip is a different hardness, for example.
a Med tip comes out hard, or a soft tip comes out medium or harder.

Most often the tips comes out harder than it should be. He is using a lathe, and shapes them nicely but what can he be doing to make them turn out harder than they should be?

He may be polishing or burnishing the profile on the end of the tip.
If this is the case, it will be harder than when it is shaped with a willard scuffer by hand .

Edit A durometer will show for sure the increase in tip hardness.

thxs for the info, i think you are right as he does burnish the side of the tips allot, his tips never seem to mushroom at all. I would expect this is because the tip got a little harder from the instalation. The tips that have worked well from him, had a little mushrooming after a couple weeks of use.

I will get him not to burnish them as much...
thxs again!

I would guess pressing also, most people complain about mushrooming so he probably presses to eliminate complaints. Make your complaint about hardness to him and he should comply.
