Tip Press

Hi all,

Okay so I recently purchased Picone's tip press as I wanted to try to make myself some milkduds. I'm wondering, anyone of you have unevenness at the bottom when you fit everything and chuck it on the lathe or even a bench press/vice? I don't know whether there's an issue with mine or am I actually tightening it too much. Seems like when I take the tip out, 1 side is lower than the other. I tried on 5 Elkmaster and all has the same results using the concave center.

Emailed Joseph or even PM in Ebay but he didn't reply after payment was made.

I have seen the issue that u are talking about when thewrong size tip and press.

Make sure u have theexact tip mm for the press u are using.

13mm press uses 13mm tip

14mm uses 14mm press

Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you.

I use a pneumatic press that has a pound of pressure guage so u know exactly the amount of pressure and it is repeatable.

Otherwise, just guessing or using a ruler, doesn't give u any repeatablility.

Good luck and feel free to PM if u have any other questions,

I have been making my own Duds and single, double and triple pressed---break and playing tips for about 4 years.

Took a couple of years to get it down, but now the results are great and the feedbackfrom players is very positive.

Also, I am able to customize the tips for the players needs and when u come back for a new tip or replacement, I can get them another tip that is like what they had, right after te replacement is done.

I don't have that kind of industrial grade machines so I can only make do with a ruler. :(

I'm using a 14mm one on the 14mm tips but the thing is when I lock my piece in, seems to me 1 side always comes up. Is it because I'm pressing them too much that's why this happens?
