Tip Radius??????

I have always used the tip tool that gives either a Nickel or Dime radius and I use the Nickel side.... well a top Pro told me that that is too round and I should use a flatter radius like a Quarter. I don't have a tool to make a Quarter radius, does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Get one of those curved sandpaper shapers and use a quarter to shape it to...if you feel that's what you want...I use a dime radius on my cues....

^^ What he said...

Who is the pro who said this? Most everyone I know (including me) uses a Dime. Just about every good player I've asked has said they use a dime as well, and the few others said nickle, or "it really doesn't matter"

^^ Let me guess, he followed up that line with "Here, I just happen to be selling this quarter-radius tip shapper for $49.95"

No he didn't and may I ask what you mean by that:confused:

Whatever radius you shape it to, it'll eventually flatten out to something else after a period of time.

He really does use a very flat tip, this guy isn't the avarage run of the mill pool player.... he can really go, if he's using a flat tip & suggest to me to do the same I am all ears

I suggest asking why first.

I was using a dime radius for awhile and the tip was just sh*tty so while waiting on the tips to come in (been waiting since last tuesday) to have it replaced I used a secondary shaft that had a quarter shaped tip on it and I seem to like it better.

Now when the tips finally come in I'll just have both of them shaped to quarter or nickel. Probably Nickel since it flattens out some anyway from playing.

Overall though it really doesnt matter what shape it is.. or what cue it is.. If you can play half a lick then you can adjust to whatever you're using without much time at all. Maybe 3-5 games or so.

Not if during that period of time you also reshaping and grooming your tip! I reshape my tip after 8-10 hours of play, maybe even more often.

Your style of play determines tip radius. If you use little english the tip will have a large radius. It you use lots of english a nickel shape. I doubt many actually have a dime radius on a used tip even though they think it is needed.
