Tip shape on breaking cue

Nickel or Dime is fine, but I prefer Nickel. Unless u can assure u hit the same spot on the cueball every break, otherwise dont use tips that are shaped too round because the more round it is, the more chances of u not hitting the same spot on cue ball every break.

I prefer the quarter to a half-dollar radius. A nickel-dime rounded tip, hitting off center, can cause some bad off hits with the cue ball at impact with the rack. I prefer a flatter tip.

Good Luck

I go flatter than my playing cue, something around half-dollar on the breaker. Not sure there is much real world difference, but theoretically it should be just a little more forgiving.

I keep the break cue tip dead flat (zero dome) for two reasons:

-- Since the heavy power stroke while breaking can easily lead to the CB being struck off its vertical centerline, a totally flat break cue tip allows an error of approx. 3/16 either way, and the CB still receives a vertical center hit.

-- It seemed logical to me that more energy is transferred to the CB when there’s no dome geometry to compress upon impact, and my results verified that I experienced more ball scatter than I ever had with any kind of dome on the breaking tip. Try a dead-flat breaking tip configuration yourself and you may like this difference (if your results are similar).

Regular nickel on a Samarsa break tip. But it's pretty well flattened since I don't see much value to shaping it regularly.

Full curve (dime?..) like playing tip, better contact, for me a flatter tip is not as good, especially with modern 9ball break racking.
