Can anyone recommend a good tip tool, I want something like a tip pik but wider, no cap needed. I've tried the shadow tip pik but takes to much effort to use. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks , Jim

i have the ultimate tip tool the best tip tool i think.

IMO Ultimate Tip Tool is a very good friend for you local Cue Repairman.

All you need is 220 Sandpaper, and or a Tip Tapper. :)

The Ultimate Tip Tool is BAD MOJO.........

sorry PoolSleuth, and i agree all you need is some good sand paper, glued to a piece of metal and gooder to go. All i really use the tip tool for is the mushrooming and burnishing.

Tip piks are ok but like you say require more effort and time. The tip tapper is a good tool but incorrectly named and used. It started people around evey pool room in the country tapping on their tips. Man the last thing I want to hear is some clown beating on their tip. There is enough noise polution without hearing tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap.

The best way to give your tip a little texture is knurl your tip. For those that don't know what this term means, read here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knurl

This term is used for metals but you can knurl anything. I hold the Tip Tapper in my right palm and roll the stick while applying a little pressure with my left hand. Do the edge of the tip then one more roll appx half way up the tip. No need to do the top, it doesn't matter. Since its a double cut file it gives the tip a texture the same as knurling. Once you do it a few times its easy plus your not removing any material. You may have a double cut file instead of buying a tapper but the tapper is smal and easy to carry. Sanding your tip away is pretty pointless.

Attached is a quickie poor photo so you can see the idea. Sry I was short on time.
