Tipping on pool time

i usually do not tip for pool time unless they stay open a little later if i'm in a money game or something. food and drinks are different.

I dont think tipping on time is normal/customary. However if the table time is something like $9.75 i will give them a 10 and tell them dont worry about the quarter.

I worked as a manager of a New York City poolroom for a couple of years and tipping the desk is NOT customary. Bartenders & waitresses make a living off of tips but the manager typically draws a salary. There were occasional customers that felt it prudent to leave something, I'd always tell them it wasn't necessary. If you feel compelled to leave something, up to $2 is sufficient. Anything more is a BIG tip.

At a lot of less busy pool rooms, though, the person working the desk is also the waiter/waitress, and so you're paying the same person whether you ordered food/drink or not. It feels weird to me not to leave a tip if there was a server taking the time to come around and check up on me.

Tipping

My pool time and bar-food tab is always separate and I try to tip everyone.
Since I don't drink alcohol I typically over tip the waitress a little but in my opinion tipping for pool time isn't necessary unless you want to.
I don't tip for pool time everytime I play, it depends.

Who tips the car salesman or real estate agent?

...........................................

As a REALTOR I never expected a tip, but for any service provider it's always good practice to express a minimum of heartfelt gratitude for any deeds and/or efforts above and beyond the norm. Whenever someone does those kind of extra little things that make your life better..... it's each of our responsibility to at least give a sincere "thankyou". JMO

A good service provider can brighten up your day (and in my industry possibly your LIFE) why not let them know it's appreciated. It doesn't have to be monetary, just give 'em some love!!

pool hall vs bar

Thanks for the responses. I usually don't tip much at the pool hall but when I am at other locations that are more like a bar with tables, I feel more obligated to tip, even when the counter person did not do more than slide a tray of balls over to me.

Also, if I order food and my table time runs high, I dont want to tip the waitress on the massive pool time tab AND the food. That would be like tipping on a 50 dollar tab when I only ate 7 or 8 dollars of food. So I have been interested on how others handle this situation because I don't want to offend my servers

The quarter is just to let them know I didn't forget and I thought service stunk!

Hu

I will not do that.I rarely make the waitress/waiter/server unhappy. It is because of the fear of getting special treatment( spit in my food ) when I visit the place next time.:o:eek:

I think this question will make me sound like more of a nit than I am. I have been trying to save money lately due to circumstances and I wonder if other people customarily tip the bartender on pool time when no food and drinks are ordered. Pleases share your thoughts.

bad economy or not i don't tip on time. all you did was hand me a tray of balls and tell me what table i'm on. and before i get beat on here i spent almost a decade in the restaraunt business. i always tip 20% or more and i figure my tip on the amount after tax. the only way i go less is if the service was deplorable. and being that i worked my way from dishwasher/prepcook to chef, i can tell when it's a server and when it's not. but to tip a person who has given you no real service, no way. now if you get drinks or food, or if you're asking him to steer you towards a game then yes - you need to drop him something.
