Mizerak had a book that suggested just inside English (cushion side) to get past the side pocket. I actually used that shot in a game tonight. The idea is that the inside deflects the CB away from the rail slightly to pass not so perfect corners, then the spin pulls it back in to make the ball. I don't know if that's actually what happens, but that's what the book said.
The shot I took was maybe 4' and went in like a charm. And then the CB followed it in for a scratch. Doh.
