What is the tip harness of most players? I use a soft elkmaster as I able to get more english, and draw. I read a post stating that a hard tips tranferes english more effective.

I use a hard tip (SUMO) , a very hard non-layered tip. It has been my experience that a hard tip is more accurate on long shots. As for english, I think a lot depends on your stroke, but I get much more action from a hard tip.

Depends on what you like as a feeling. I now use a sniper tip (which is medium-soft) and on my spare shaft I have a pro (medium). I like both of them.

The softer the tip, the longer the contact with the cue ball, the more spin you get!

I like a fairly hard tip. It seems counter productive to seek out a cue that is built as solidly and accurately as can be and then put a soft tip on it.

Definitely go hard, I'd say. It's all about consistency, and that's inherently in favor of hard tips. I got a WB on my Nitti SP which I think is simply grand -- just shape it one and you're good to go. I've gone 20+ hrs with it already, and its still looking perfect (and playing perfect).

And I plan on maybe using Moori Hards in the future...although I'm thinking Moori III Mediums are pretty firm already...

Hey, Sniper (the premier medium soft tip) doesn't advertise its characteristics of a hard tip for nothing...I'd say try a Sniper if you like soft tips. Definitely more consistent than a random Elk Master.

As Matcase said... a solidly built cue feels ruined when using a soft tip...

I like the feeling of a hard tip and love the spin we can impart with a soft one. I guess Sniper is the best of both worlds.

From my experience... hard tips deflect more than a soft tip...(disclaimer... this is my opinion...im not stating that as a fact)
I love the way hard tips feel...but I had to revert back to a softer tip. im using a morri soft now.. thinking about going back to a sniper :)

Hard Or Soft? Layered Or Non Layered?

The Best Thing About This Thread Is That It Shows The Many Diffrences Of Opinions And Preferences Players Have. Personally I Like A Medium Layered Tip Like A Hercules Or Sniper. Most Tips Compress As They Get Played And Therefore Become Harder. Imo Moori's Are So Popular Because Of Their Ability To Hold Chalk , And That Equals Less Miscues & Less Chalking Between Shots. Even Though We All Know That You Should Chalk In Between Every Shot:)

I recently ruffed up my wife's talisman after she had gone a VERY VERY long time without doing so and it was probably the best feeling tip I've used, other than a fresh sniper. I think I might actually prefer the talisman :o

Tailsman have had a few problems about a year ago. There Still the best hitting layered tip my opinion.

Speaking of good tips, Has anyone used Instroke tips? I am interested in getting some of those - anyone have some for sale? Thanks, Larry.

I have tried them, Real similar to a Moori. Use to use em when Mooris were hard to get. Do they still make them?
