Titlest Question??? Need help!

I purchased, via long distance of course, a butt section which I was led to believe is a titlest butt. OK, questions... well, statement first... I know nothing of cuemaking or titlest cues, so I need advice from the cuemakers on this one.

questions

Is it usual or unusual for titlest cues to have uneven points? Looks like this cue was turned a little off center, so two opposing points are even, the other two, one is high, one is low.

Did any old Titlest cues ever come with wraps?

Are the Veneer color schemes consistent in Titlest cues? This one has four veneers on rosewood points, from inside to out they are Natural, Brown, Green and Purple.

OK, fire away... tell me if I bought a pig in a poke or if I have something here worth having work done on????? I have a feeling it's the "pig", but just don't know!

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

If you want you e-mail me the photos from both threads and I'll put them on my site and put them up for you. Perfectly even points were a rarity in Titleists - that's one of the reasons why Balabuska quit using them and switched to Burton Spain.

I have some where just one point is low or high - whatever. You get used to it - that is the norm when you're dealing with classic cues. Perfect points are a rarity. I personally think the value of the occasional Titleist you see with perfect points is a lot higher because of the rarity.

Just FYI...

"Titleist" refers to the golf equipment

"Titlist" refers to the Brunswick cues

Just my $.02

Adios,

Shorty:

I had two one-piece Titlists that were late ones - no Willie Hoppe signature facsimile on the forearm. Jim Buss told me these were manufactured by Schmelke - which makes sense because of their other Brunswick tie-ins. Both of these cues were roll-engraved on the butt, in gold, "Willie Hoppe Titlist". No "e" which squares with the labels on earlier ones. All the golf balls and other equipment use "Titleist". Webster uses the Brunswick spelling (or vice-versa). Maybe the golf company uses the "e" to get around copyright infringement with B'wick.

Adios,
