To glove or not to glove?

I've never worn a glove but I seem to see an increasing amount of players wearing them. Not sure if I'm correct but I think most gloves are being worn by younger players not the old dudes of which I am one. Just personal preference or does it really add anything to your stroke/game?

I bought one about two months ago. Used it a few times. It does offer the constant slickness I like, no drag at all. Also keeps the master dust from forming in my hand.

But on the downside for me, not using one for years, and not being one for change, makes me not pull it out of the case.

I've never worn one. I'm 43. One guy in my in-house league was wearing one for six months and then seemed to quit. He's in his 60's. Another guy in his 30's wears one.

I use a Q-Wiz to keep my cue smooth, and sometimes I'll use a dab of baby powder.

Ditto for me. I tried it once..... brain dead as I am, I found it to be a distraction. If your hand sweats a lot, and if it doesn't give you the heebie jeebies wearing it, then I think the smooth stroke benefit would be worth looking into. It's just not for me.

to me, it's like using a chalk holder...be it the stick with the skull on it, or a 232 bullet or w/e, I'm just not used to it. I like the cube in the right back pocket(left handed). Tried using a holder for awhile..just couldn't get used to it

I like wearing one. Really don't need it in the winter but sometimes, in the summer months, the humidity will get to where your bridge sweats a little and it feels a bit sticky. The glove assures you get the same smooth feeling every time.

Personally, I wore a glove in the summer, but rarely in the winter.

Now that I live in Florida, I almost always wear a glove. Prolly cuz it's summer nearly year round.

I've also notice that there are many more glove wearers in Florida. Nobody seems to get ribbed about it.

I've used the SLIX glove for years, and unfortunately it's not made anymore. However, I bought the Action glove and it's a decent replacement, but it's not made as well.

Glove

You talk to any instructor and the most important word in pool is consistent. The glove gives you a consistent feel regardless of sweat, temperature, or humidity. I was very weary too, but I have been wearing one for 6 months now. I will never go back.

i bought one for the 1st time about 6 weeks ago. i thought why not try one ? i have wasted money on other things lol.

the 1st time i wore it took some getting used to. after the 4th time wearing it is just feels natural, just like every thing else you get used to it.

imo it does help you have a more consistent stroke.

btw i am 59 years old. who says you cant teach an old dog new tricks ?

I tried it but did not give it a real test. It does seem to make my bridge hand feel more solidly planted on the table and I noticed a tendency to use an open handed bridge on a lot of shots that I normally would use a closed bridge.

There is one cue that I occasionally use and it just seemed to go / complement using a glove with this cue - I did stop using it when I went to a different cue.

I noticed 3-c players are using it.

Never.
I think that the total feel of the shaft is important to consistent shot making. Also even though I am right handed I shoot about 10-15% of my shots left handed and it just wouldn't feel right since I also rely on the feel of the wrap to know where my hand is on the butt of the cue stick.

A Q-Wiz pad is all anyone needs to play all night long without drag. Been using one (Q-Wiz) for the past year and haven't touched my powder bottle once in that time. A quick shot with the Q-Wiz will usually get me through many 8-10 hour sessions at the table before I have to use it again.

Personally I think pros only wear them because they get $$$ for their use.
Try the Q-Wiz (without the glove) for a month and see if your game doesn't improve.

Thanks folks ... I appreciate all the feedback. Not a major priority but also not very expensive to try and if I don't like it no big deal. Next time I'm in my supply place I might give one a go.

The glove works. Don't be afraid to try something new.

The glove will give the most consistent low friction stroke. Provided you keep it clean. I would recomend having 2 so you always have one clean. The glove will absorb all the moisture from your hand and then the chalk from the shaft and table. If I am playing on dirty tables I will wash mine daily. I also wash my shaft daily.;)

Since I do shoot with either hand my pool cue wears the glove. For an open bridge I leave it where it is pictured, when I use a closed bridge I just wrap my hand around it and slide it down to stay between my thumb and forefinger.

Mine are made of silk. Actually from silk ties I got at the thrift store for $.50. @ Silk is the slickest mateial I have found for a glove.

I love wearing the glove. My hand is sometimes too dryand I like to dress nice when I play pool (usually because I'm out for the night), abd it helps keep chalk off my nice clothes, too.Only one other player in my APA district wears a glove.I don't understand why there aren't more serious players using it.

Wore one tonight. My hands would not stop sweating, it was extremely humid, and the table was dirtier than a two dollar hooker on Bourbon street.
