To help pool players funding

There won't be a spender like Trudeau for a longtime. The new people have some flash to them but not like how Kev knew how to put up the money.

As for a solution to the pool player problem, maybe a Trudeau that can stick with it instead of cut at run at the first sign of trouble. The small stash setups are great but how many people can that support? 1 maybe 2.

You are entitled to your opinion. I would guess that your idea to fix this problem is to either post something like this, do nothing, or some mix of the two.

Let me tell you why you will always get smart-@ss answers. Because this is a tiresome boring-@ss theme that is brought up 6x a year. The smart-@ss answer is ridiculing your insipid-@ssed suggestion.

Look mate

If this thread had 100% positive responses, everyone saying "yay yay that's a great idea", i guarantee you the idea would still die on it's ass and nothing would happen.

Now you have 95% negative responses, what do you think is going to happen ?

Just give it up mate and let this thread die a natural death

You have spent more time defending yourself from the negative responses that anything else, doesn't that tell you something ?

If a player is selling an instructional DVD or offering a seminar and you are interested in it and can afford it buy it. If there is a player you would want such a seminar from mention to them or even start a thread and see if you can put one together. Get ten local guys to put in $200 each for an eight hour class. Most players I know if their schedule permits would fly out and do a class for that. Some would do multiple days for that or one day for less. Don't be afraid to contact them and ask.

This is more realistic if you like pool spend money on pool. I have bought in on quite few things which support pool and alot of times it is because I want to support pool. Williebetmore has had pool clinincs with Danny D and Grady at house I usually attend if my schedule permits. I always learn something and it helps these guys out. I have taken lessons from quite few people and always felt I got my moneys worth and it help the people giving the lesson yet I have been questioned on what do you get that is worth spending 50, 100 or my goodness 200 or 400. What I got is someones attention these are people who I respect and they have spent alot of time learning a game I love. I do not mind giving back. I was recently in a room and was telling aplayer I was going to take lessons on bank from John Brumback the room owner was like what can they tell you that would be worth anything. I got my moneys worth and would do it again it was good for me and good for John and it has help my game. Do I expect to reap cash rewards to recoup all I have spent on pool, not really I cash here and there win something gambling occasionally but what I have is the knowledge and I have a relationship with a variety of world class players/teacher, I can call them and they will offer me advice. I would probably take more time from any and all of the people I have ever taken a lesson from in no paticular order including Jerry Breisath, Ray Martin, Scott Lee, Mark Wilson, John Brumback, Stan Shuffett, Brian Gregg. I have been to HOF award dinners boght DVD's and books galore bought entry to pool events and played where I terribly outclassed. I have loved all of it, I like pool. I wish the best to older players and hope they manged their money some did and some did not. Do I think we should take cash out of a calcutta to support older players not really. The current player would complain just a little too loud and then they would stop attending and the railbird who buy players would cut back on their bids and then the big calcuttas would be gone. Do I think players should be jelly rolled from afar I doubt it happens. Should we send the US Mint some cash if we win $100 flipping a coin or if we win betting the horses should we send the trainer/owner something. I think it is a little different if you are there sweating the action live versus betting on the result or even on a stream it is not the same as live. And yeah I have kicked a player something more than a few times and on the other hand I have won (and lost) and kept it all to myself. I would not want to be taxed or tracked for pool action. Nice thought but not to realistic. I aggree with JCIN use your cash to support pool and if you want to support an older player kick them some cash they will definitly share there knowledge and stories for a few hours or even a day or two for a very reasonable fees or just offer to take them out for a nice meal.

It's a nice thought to have extra money to toss out to people.

But...

I'm sure we can all think of the players that sleep on their friends couches, stay up until 8am and sleep until 5pm. Do I really go to work Monday through Friday so that they can sit on their rumps and "do what they love"? Yeah, it's a great idea to take care of the wants first and let others deal with the needs. Unfortunately, this just doesn't make economic sense. Maybe teach them to make money or be self-sufficient, but I'm sure not following for the "poor me" line.

Oh, and somebody can have the skills to take down a decent tournament, but not the financial wisdom to set aside a few bucks for the calcutta? Not my problem. If you give the guy the money, then you're screwing the people that actually had their own money that they were going to put in. Where does it stop?

And how is financial ignorance not their fault? You're talking about grown men that blew their money without regard to their futures. Where are their 401k's? How about medical insurance? Maybe I should start setting some of my money aside so that they can "retire" when they're done travelling around and partying like a teenager.

If a road player ever takes me off, that son of a ***** better ask if he can take me to dinner or do my laundry for work.

Sorry, I'm not much into adults acting like needy kids.

"Sure, I'll play for $10k." "Hey, can I borrow $5?" Not getting any sympathy here. Next time, maybe those without the wisdom to think more than 5 days into the future should be forced to bank half of their winnings.

Oh, and one more thing.. how much of that money that changes hands gets taxed? I'm sure it's a much smaller percentage than what I see every other week (or more like 0%).

Wah wah wah.
...
Take a look at a couple of people mentioned here recently.. Brumback and Gregg. They both have kids.. you know what that means? They have no other choice than to take care of business. Ask them about getting handouts or having to bust their arses. I'd put money on them having to bust their arses.
Thanks for the support their Banks, I can say that all of my life my passion has been to play pool and I have been caught up in chasing the game and ignoring the value of life with no career. It was just a couple of years ago I chose to change my life around and go to college and today I am a Kidney Dialysis Technician and the thrill i get is knowing that I am improving the quality of life for someone. I would like to thank Al Green for inspiring me to make that change along with my family. One thing that I can say to all the young people out their in the billiard world today don't wait to late to make something of yourself because you will always have time to play pool. For Mr Brumback I have always admired him and would like to congradulate him for all his accomplishments here the last few years.

Understand that this has become an utterly redundant theme. I see you have 1300+ posts, so you're no newbie. Are you just trying to invent a different way to say the same thing?

Okay, here's my solution, and I am not being facetious. AZB should add a new forum entitled "How we can save pool". I think by now, this theme deserves it's own forum. It may not approach the number of threads started at Sarah Rousey's, but it'll beat the other four pros combined. You could do a search in "How to save pool" and find virtually every possible solution to ever be penned. But more than anything else, the redundancy of this topic is exacerbated by the fact that nothing new is EVER added. I think it is VERY important to understand this...NOTHING new is ever added. It is quite literally a thread that goes nowhere, and is therefore not deserving of recurring discourse.
