Mr. WEBB - if you replace a Ivory ferrule with a thinner ferrule do you reduce deflection significately / the reason for my question is this - if I jack up on the rail stroking medium hard I can miss an object ball 5 feet away by 2 inches . using a predator shaft the cue ball seems to hit much closer to objective. any other opinions will be appreciated. {bluewolf stay away - thanks}

I don't have all of the answers, but try this theory Every different type ferrule has different weight. So the thinner the wall of the ferrule equals less weight but the more weight you gain from the tenon under the ferrule. Basic subtraction of one property means addition of another. But the thinner the wall of the ferrule the easier it cracks. So a fiber pad is used to absorb shock. If you absorb shock you have less deflection. The thin fiber pad is placed between the tip and ferrule, it protects the ferrule by absorbing shock. Deflection is the impact or shock that occurs when the cue strikes the ball. Now because every tip and ferrule are different, some absorb the shock more than others which simply means. Some you get more or less English with.

Average finished ferrule size of the predator is 12.7mm which converts to .500 thousanths. Increased the tenon thickness to .404 thousanths. Subtraction equals, divided by two gives you a wall thickness of .048 thousanths.

Standard masking tape is approximately .010 thick.
Predator also drill out the front of the shaft for X amount of inches. By doing this, they created a shock absorber. Shock absorbtion equals less deflection.
