To the Proponents of the Soft Case I have a Question

I like my soft case because:

Most players think I'm not as good as I am, because they see my cheap case and prejudge my playing abilities.

I only need protection from car to bar.

I don't want it to be stolen and the cheap case is overlooked by thieves.

On the taller bars or cocktail tables, I can hang my case from my Cue Nook so it is under the table and out of the way. This keeps it safe and dry and clean.

I've watched too many players fight their hard cases trying to get the stuck butt out of them. Shake shake stomp cuss...lol quite the spectacle.

Carrying around a heavy case for a whole weekend just sucks.

I can hang my case from my watch pocket with the little key chain I've attached to the zipper ring. This is handy when standing around waiting.

My soft case looks nice and feels nice.

I'm cheap and so is the case. If it gets ruined, I'll just get another....no big deal.

My teammates give me shit about my case and I use this for motivation.

My soft case holds everything I need, so why go bigger/harder?

My soft case is more hideable in my truck, so I don't tempt theives so much.

I can hang my case inside my closet in my pool room on a little nail, as opposed to having to build a special shelf for some heavy thing.

A teammate of mine insist on placing his heavy-ass case on a chair in pool rooms like it is some kind of shrine or something. He treats it as more important than his teammates, so I've gotten the attitude of really not liking hard cases.

I'm being a hard case about hard cases, so I'll soften up now...

My answer would still be the same. I have opened box cases and found cues covered with mildew. I see wet wraps all the time here when it is humid due to the case. It is not how hard the case is but how it is constructed and seals up. Some of the most high end cases with their loose fitting tops held in place with snaps don't in reality protect the cue from the most common danger, humidity. I have no problem running through a rain storm to my car with my soft vinyl case with my $1000. + cue in it. There are a lot of cases that look nice but give a false impression of protection I would never do that with..

thanks for the clarification, i see your point.

i dont agree with the humidity part, as usual most opinoins are not based on scientific principles, and your comment isnt valid unless your soft case is air tight, which would mean it doesnt breathe? the only case ive seen that comes close to that would be a cenntenial.

i also have no prob. running through the rain with my old beat up george 2x4, and i dont worry about anything banging into it or falling or some one leaning something against it.

but i agree the protection issue for most is minimal.

what if you had say 50 or 100 cue? how would you store them? would you wnt to pile them all up in soft cases?

I like soft cases better. Protection is not an issue, the hard cases are just too formal/ flashy for my tastes. Maybe I am slumming it 'coz I gotta wear a tie all week!.

George cases, Felinni (sp) and the like provide the maximum protection for the cue. Many of the high end cases of today's popular style don't provide protection against the humidity. I have to tell you, hundreds of times people have come up to me in the pool room to show me their cues with a wet wrap in and in a short time the wrap is dry from the rooms air conditioning. This is common and can't be good for the cue. I like soft cases when I go out, they are lite and non assuming, I don't like gaudy things, and provide a reasonable level of protection for me. Not the maximum, but plenty to make them very useful under normal conditions. I saw a cue that had fallen off a guys motorcycle on the way to the pool room and then was struck by a car. It was in a Porpor case and although the case looked rough the cue had no damage at all. I doubt my cue in the case I usually carry would have done so well, but I will still continue to use it. I have a lot of cases but carry a soft case.

Well you can buy a CHEAP HARD CASE that will protect you Treasure, but it a $5.00/Garage Sales Special, or Custom by ? For $20.00-$30.00. Again Porper makes em.

I love my Whitten, and they as Fairly Soft Leather, plus protects well. If you want a Hard Leather Case, you got Justice, Instroke, On Q Cases, and a Few More too choose from. But leather is HEAVY.

To the guy who state a Good Case will make people think you are a Better Player. We had a Hustler in L.A. years back who Cue was one of the Oriental 5 Piece Cues. He was tough to be a Poor Player because of his 5 Piece Cue that was carried in a Long Knee Sock. Her did well in the $ department.

Lots of good pros, and cons on Soft verses Hard Cases. Personal I want Protection for my Cue be it the 60 Buck Dufferin, or the Custom by? Wenty Traveling from Home to?
