Hi all, hope you all are doing much better than me.... so here's the story....

I just got home from Ray Rec. tonight with my brother and my dad. I played so freaken bad that right now, I'm seriously thinking about quitting, using my cues as firewood, pissing in my case, beat the hell out of my CB with a sledgehammer and go run down the busiest highway wearing all black at night. But I won't because I'm afraid to die, I spend too much money on the stuff I have, and dammit do I love this game. Sorry fellow brothers, I'm just venting and ranting....sigh I feel as if I will never in my life be decent at pool. I think I'll go watch poolhall junkie, maybe that will cheer my up LMFAO jk

Happy shooting! :(

Welcome to Pool.

And it won't be the last time you feel like this.

As a matter of fact, I think it's all about how you mature through these "modes" and see what they have to offer, what they reveal about you as a player.

If you love the game, you'll find a way through. Lord knows, for me, it's a daily process.

I seem to be very very very inconsistent, and my temper doesn't help either. I am learning to control it. Thanks

Happy shooting!

Getting mad wont help, just think about what it was you were doing wrong and next time you go to play make sure you dont do this things.

I use to have a thing when i was playing badly i would think of a pro and pretend i was him and try to mimic his shooting style and things he did while at the table.
Seemed to always make me forget about what i was doing wrong and get me back in stroke.

getting pissed.. means tension....in pool tension is the enemy.. tension makes you force it

you need relaxed fluid muscles to play pool..

if you force yourself you will get worse ... not better...

I get frustrated too... that's when you bag up the cues and live to fight another day..

hang in there:D

Thanks guys, I just need to relax when I shoot as all of you said. I better learn to meditate before I get on the table :D As for everyone who has gave me rep to keep me motivated and keep me on track, I really appreciate it and thank you very much.

"If everyone's doing it, it must be a lot of people doing it."-Tom Cruise LMFAO I just had to get that line in there and make a movie quote because I know how a lot of our fellow AZB'ers love movie lines from TCOM or "Poolhall Gallery" or "Shooting Junkies" (Shooting Gallery+Poolhall Junkies) jk jk :D

Have a good one and as always, happy shooting! :)

I know EXACTLY how you feel. When you invest so much $$$ into it, it would be nice to occasionally reap some rewards!

Oh well, time to rededicate myself to practicing...not tonight though...too much wine...

It is not the amount of money you invest that will make you better;
It is the amount of time.

Just relax buddy, best word ever, RELAX... Both on and off the table.

Slow down, breath, see your shots and be patient. I played years ago and was really good at it. Then I stopped playing for over 15 years and when I started again, it was like plumbing a damn with silly putty, worthless!

Once i re-trained myself to relax and remember that like in any type of relationship, there are good and bad days, and that its the game itself I love, I started to relax and play better.

Get you one of my sneakies and you will never miss another shot :)
I know exactly what your saying Chino. I have blown a couple of games in team tourneys that cost our team a chance to advance. Makes you want to sell it all off or even give it away, walk away and never look back. But you know as well as I do that you've got the game in your bones man....it ain't going away no matter what you do. Shake it off, look at your limitations as an opportunity to improve and rack em up again tomorrow.
It's pool man...it's just pool.

Thanks for the motivational words. I appreciate it guys. I'm still pretty green at playing pool, so like beetle has said, I just have to practice and relax. Thanks all!

Welcome to competitive sports (yes pool and snooker is a sport).

The simple fact is that you will have bad days every now and then for the rest of you playing life. Although as you improve your bad game improves as well, but it becomes no less frusterating.

The only thing we can do is accept it, and realize that this isn't how you play every day. Avoid the "I suck comments".

The angrier you get, the more f@#$ed up your stroke gets. The more f@#$ed up your stroke gets, the more f@#$ed up your game gets. The more f@#$ed up your game gets, the more f@#$ed up your confidence gets. And once you lose your confidence, it's all over. :D

Haha, good sales pitch, I like it
I do feel as if it is embedded in me already. It seems like once you have a love for this sport, there is no turning back, it get's etched into our nervous system to want to stroke it

Thanks for the tip, I think the "I suck comments" is not helping my game at all, because I keep doubting myself and my confidence is getting to a very low point. I've read somewhere about a billiard learning curve, how it is low, suddenly it will spike up dramatically and goes back downhill to about where you started and it gradually moves up, pass the spike point that just occurred. Thanks

I agree with poolfool, well f@#$in said jcommie
It starts off with an easy shot missed, if I let it get to me, it will have a chain reaction and it will get worst and worst. I don't know if this happens to anyone, but when I shoot, I start sweating a lot, like it is a really physical sport. I am starting to think that I am not relaxed enough, I'm too tense and making myself very nervous, causing me to sweat. My dad looked at me like, "Why the heck are you sweating so much." :embarrassed2:

Happy shooting! :)

Very true. In fact everytime you have a slump it often precedes an improvement in your game, assuming you handle it properly...

Guess using my cues as firewood and pissing in my case wouldn't count as handling it properly :embarrassed2: haha thanks again. I am working at it, and am just letting it happen rather than trying to make it happen (Thanks softshot). I appreciate the advice Cameron

Good and Bad days are the norm in this sport

Been on a great run for a few months. Feeling confident ect. Then the tournament I played this weekend went very badly. No focus or concentration. Speed problems, pocketing balls was not going as planned.
Getting bad angles, and just PLAIN NOT GETTING OUT OF RACKS.
Put my equipment away, looked around at some friends staring at me and said, " Its cool, I had fun. There will always be other tourneys" Walked to the bar and ordered a lemon drop. AHHHH, that hit the spot.:D
When I do poorly, I always remind myself. You learn more when you lose rather than win. I have always thought that theory to be accurate.
Only thing I can do at this point is to practice more and be prepared to play your best. AND NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER!!!!!
Hope this helps:smile:

Take Care,
A

It helped, thanks for the great example. Much classier than my version haha. I have a plan, when I get fraustrated at any given point of time, I will go sit down and take a break, if not count to three, take a deep breath, and smile. I do agree, when I miss a shot, I learn more by analysing the shot rather than trying chew on my cue like a woodpecker :) Thanks and have a good one, I won't give up.

Happy shooting right? :)
