Anybody here who can give us updates and "blow by blow" accounts on the event?;)

Thanks for the chart, Miko. It is great to be able to follow the matches.

I am having a little trouble reading the results of Johnny Archer. Is he still in the tournament?

ManlyShot,

If I am reading it correctly then Johnny is out. Looks like the left side is the winners side and the right is the losers. He lost his first match to Gabica and then went out to Schmidt. I like the look of those brackets.

Dave

If the winners side is on the left, then Alex the Lion, Efren, Mika, and A. Lining are in that bracket.

The U.S. only has 2 representatives, Charlie Williams and Johnny Archer, but the Phillipines has 8 representatives.

There are a lot of names of players that I am unfamiliar with. The printed designated times on the chart is a nice feature.

Those are some pretty sharp brackets...all it needs is the scores of the matches and it would be great

Morris also tried to qualify. Didn't make it.

I am still having trouble understanding the chart as posted on the website, but, if I am reading it correctly, the Americans, Johnny and Charlie, are out.

The remaining six players are: A. Lining (Phillipines), Hiroshi Takenaka (Japan), Shintaro Sugaya (Japan), Antonio Gabica (Phillipines), Alex Pagulayan (Canada), and Efren Reyes (Phillipines).

That is the way I read it. They are sending me brackets but they don't have the scores either, so I didn't put them up.

The tourney is also double elimination to a point and then single elim after that. It is a little confusing.

Mike

AzHousePro, the Japanese chart must be fashioned in a way that Japanese words are written, which moves in the opposite direction of English words, but double elimination becoming single elimination is a first for me. I had never heard of that, but I have never been to Japan either.

Do you know why Rodney didn't qualify for this tournament? The only reason I can think of is that he must not have participated in enough events by this particular pool organization.

With the Americans knocked out, I am now rooting for Alex the Lion win the whole thing.

is it my imagination, or is alex placing exceptionally well this year

It's typical of the Japanese. They try to do everything backwards from Americans. In baseball we call balls & strikes. They call strikes & balls. :D

Pagulayan over Takenaka 10-5 and Lining over Sugaya 10-7 in the loser's bracket finals. I guess this is the point where they get reshuffled so it's going to be Efren against Nikoy(Lining) and Gaga (Gabica) vs Mao (Pagulayan) for the semi-finals.

An all-Filipino (blood-wise) affair then. Unbelievable, and without Bustamante, too.

is "mao" alex's filipino nickname?

Yes, how did he get that name?;)

All right, I'll take a shot, but only guessing.

The Chinese word for "cat" is "mao," and it is pronounced almost exactly the same as "Mao," as in Chairman Mao Tse-Tung.

Alex the Lion a/k/a Mao, may look like a cat, but can roar like a lion on the pool table.
