Any players or posters here that live in or near Tokyo, Japan? I have a friend that I have not spoke to for almost 10 years that lives there and was wondering if I could get some help in trying to contact him. Or, if anybody here knows how to go about trying to find somebody there it is appreciated.

Keeping it pool related, what is the pool scene like there? He once told me it was pretty neat and full of good players, and he was one of them. Thanks!

There's a classifieds section at the top of the page, and most English speaking foreigners in Japan read either the online or paper version. You could post an ad looking for your friend there.
If he plays in the Tokyo area and is good enough to have a reputation, I might be able to find him. Tokyo is full of Fillipino pool players, but only a handful of people (that play) from other countries.
As for the scene? Wonderful. Two or more clubs near most major train stations. The Japanese are very picky and very material, so the equipment is good and well taken care of. And, the majority of the pros on one of the two tours live in either Osaka, Yokohama, or Tokyo. It's safe to say that almost all the clubs in the Tokyo area are staffed with an actively playing house pro, and a hadful of them are international class. And the best part of it all is although they gamble, it's not like here in the states where you can't get the guy out of his seat for less than a couple hundred. Guys like Oi, Hijikata, Kawabata, Moori, and others would gladly play you for around 1,000 ($11-$12) yen for a race to seven.

I share Tokyo-dave's opinion. I was there about a year ago, and the equipment was top-notch at the places I visited. Very lively places; expect cigarette smoke and possibly a wait on tables.

If you can't get in touch with your friend and find yourself in the neighborhood of Shinjuku, I would recommend "Somewhere" (that's the name of the place). It's located in the Humax Pavilion (which is just one of many fairly-large, well-lit buildings in the area). I remember seeing a sizeable LED sign for the pool hall next to the building, but believe it or not, that sign isn't so easy to spot. That whole area is the definition of "sensory-overload". I do know that the Humax Pavilion is next to a large theater building so if you see that, you're in the right area. The pool hall itself is on one of the upper floors of the building.
