Is that the small oe right by the college?

I went to one there a few times about 4 years ago that was kinda small
but had good weekly tournaments. If I remember right it was a guy and
his wife or girlfriend that owned it.

My buddy and me got first and 2nd once and it paid about 1k with the
calcutta.
I can remember that it was the first time I saw a guy from Tyler that
looked like he was closer to death than living. He just got up and
ran out and ran out. He had a grey beard and hair and looked like he was
going to have trouble getting around the table.
I got lucky via 9 on the breaks and beat him.

I enjoyed the time I spent playing pool around east texas. Lots of good weekly events and tons of action. We spent almost 3 full weeks just in east texas.

Ya its right by Stephen F. Austin State University, about 2 miles away. I cant picture the guy you describe, but theres one guy I played with once, and I have played JJ, Parica, Ronnie Allen, and many others, and this guy DRUMMED ME!! I was amazed, He broke and ran the first 5 I believe, then got hooked, played an incredible safety, and I missed and gave him ball in hand and he ran 3 more after that! I believe the guy who used to run it, the family guy you spoke of, moved to another state I believe.

That sounds like Curtis Payne. The only time I saw him was at a small tournament in central arkansas. He was asking everyone in the place for something to drink and it was Sunday. I heard he was a great player

Lets hear about tommy.

From what I was told he could play a little below the top guys.
I know he and Earl battled a few times and Tommy came away
with a win a couple times. I think Earl gave him the eight.
Scotty T told me that Tommy would play anyone on the bar table and
that he had a chance to beat alot of them.

I asked about him not long back and really cant remember the answers
except he has stopped playing again.

BTW--hogg I went to a couple Pt. Arthur tournaments. Are they still
having big ones like they used to? I was friends with "Action's" father.
After the first calcutta I knew why they called him action.
First one I went to had 27k in the first calcutta.
Always good action to sweat. I played Pat Fox ( i think that was his name)
from Beaumont a little and came out a little ahead.
Other than it being hot as hell I liked the events.

Well i work at the pool hall where they had the big tournys.I am trying to get the owner to have them again, but he just loses alot of money when he puts them on.I have seen the calcuttas go up to 40k at they're tournys. As far as action that is the old owners dad.If we ever had another tourny he would be there and betting real real big.Pat fox works in a pool hall in beaumont,he still plays as far as i hear.I will keep you informed if i get another tourny going down here. And yes its still hot as hell down here.If you ever come down this way hit me up.

The Jimmy that owns Rack and Q in Nacogdoches is Jimmy Langston(sp?). He recently moved back from Tempe Arizona, where he had a poolhall, and bought Rack and Q from Garon who owns Garon's Billiards in Lufkin. Jimmy won the Arizona state one pocket championship a couple of times, I think, and is also real good friends with Scott Frost, whom I hope comes around here some time. I would really love to see him play.

There was a small family room for a while right by SFA (a block or two away on northstreet) where Crossroads used to be, and I think the guy that owned it was named Craig. I'm not sure about the last name but I want to say Craig Green.

I used to play there in 2004 when I was at SFA. Best pool hall around. Road players would come in looking for Jimmy. If I remember correctly after Jimmy won in Arizona (one pocket), he and Scott Frost broke a few players in big money games in Vegas. Jimmy took some of the money and bought rack and cue which was an old strip club. I remember “Dude”, his cocker spaniel lol. Lots of good local players and the joint was always jumping on the weekend. I saw inside Jimmy’s safe once. Let’s just saw he was “well healed.”Good dude, couldn’t get him to teach you shit, would only show you.
