Poor picture but a nice remembrance of when they were young and thin.

Tony added quite a few pounds before he left us.

Thanks for posting the photo. I was a big Tony Ellin fan, I really love the way he would just roll the balls in so softly, he made it look easy. I believe that had he lived he would have won the U.S. Open at least once and would've had quite an big list of majors by now.

Not just a great player, but an especially likable guy. One thing I remember well is that, when Filipino stars Reyes, Bustamante, Andam, Lining and Luat played on the PBT in the 1990's, one of the very first American pros they warmed up to was the very personable Tony Ellin.

Nice find!!

I noticed Chris Chrisman in there as well. All the Chicago player's should know him as the long-time owner of Chris's Billiards on N. Milwaukee Ave. Scorsese filmed a couple scenes there for "The Color of Money".

I remember a couple years ago, watching a weeks worth of ESPN Classic's showing billiards and a couple of the shows had Tony Elin on them. Well a couple days later i was talking to a good pool playing friend and was like " hey who's this guy Tony,, something I seen him on TV on some old ESPN classic's shows and wow he breaks really hard yet plays sooo smooth!! " well my friend was like umm whats his last name, And i couldnt remember, but i think i said Tony Allen lol, but i was like he's a bigger guy and such, and he instantly said Tony Elin....

And of course I did my yea thats the name... and not knowing, I said, so where is this guy? i mean i've never heard of him untill i watched those shows.

My friend replied, ohhh he died a several years ago in a bad car accident..... talk about feeling stupid.. Cuz all of the shows I have seen of him he plays just UNREAL!!!!!!

I can only imagine IF he was still alive, he'd be right up there still with any of the top players.

i met tony a couple of times. he was always very nice and made time for the novices. he was a jam up player too.

I believe you're right. Tony definitely lived in South Carolina. Additionally, I have heard, but cannot personally confirm, that Ellin and Archer were partners on the road at one point.
