Too loose of a grip?

Is it ever possible to have too loose of a grip on the hand you hold the butt of the cue with?
Am I right that I have seen some hold so loose that the cue will slide forward and even on some cases out of their hand.
I know that is an extreme example.
Is there really any benefit at all in holding the cue tighter?

The two extremes are just not correct. Somewhere in the middle is your answer.

Control the cue with a cradle as to a grip. Still lighter will work wonders.

twal...The tighter you hold the cue, the more difficult it is to let the weight of the cue and timing create the speed of the stroke...and the more likely you will use strength and power to shoot the shot. Both ways work...one is much easier to learn.
